My question is if a person was a victim of domestic violence about 2 or 3 years ago can he/she buy a handgun? I know that you can't buy it if you were charged with it, but what about if you were a victim?

You are not penalized for being the victim of a crime.
That will not keep you from being able to buy/own a handgun in the United States. |

You can buy a handgun as long as YOU have not been convicted of a felony or been in a mental institution. |

If you were a victim you can still purchase a gun legally. Providing, of course, you are still eligible to posses a firearm. |

In Ohio, the concealed carry law actually allows domestic violence VICTIMS to get an emergency carry permit while the regular permit is being approved. |

of course, unless you have gotten in trouble for planning to kill the other person, or stalking them... victims don't tend to lose rights. |

In the state of FL you can. The only exception is if you have an injuction for protection order against you still in effect. |

Like anyone else trying to obtain a firearm there is an application and a waiting period. If this person has a clear background, then they should be able to obtain a handgun.
