Drink Driving question, please help?

my 19 year old neice foolishly drove her car while drunk, she was stopped, breathalysed and charged by the police, she is going to court this week, we know she will be banned and have to re-sit her test again but she has just been accepted into teaching uni, the uni letter states that they will do a disclosure and if they find any convictions the offer will be declined. will drink driving show up on this and ruin her uni place? please help, thank you.

Drink Driving is a Criminal Offence.
So yes it will show. |

Well if she is convicted of drink driving, yes it will show on the disclosure.
It possibly could result in her offer of uni palce being declined.
Her fault. It may teach her a lesson. |

Depending on the outcome of her court appearance, she should immediately contact the uni and advise them. She can ask what to do of the admissions staff, who will no doubt have come across this before.
She can then demonstrate she is mature enough to face the consequences of her actions, by following whatever process is required - perhaps offering to attend a further interview/discussion if her place is in jeopardy.
Hope is not lost. My friend also made a stupid mistake aged 19, was stopped and breathalysed and banned from driving. She is now finishing her second year of a teaching degree, having declared the conviction on her app.
I'm sure your niece has learnt from this, and will be an advocate against drink driving to her peers. Hope this is helpful. |

Yes,definately.
I have had to have disclosures etc as i used to be a bus driver now in h.g.v driver, and sadly,it will show up on her disclosure.
What on earth will stop people drink driving.its maddening that people still do.
i have never drunk and drove,i dont understand the mentality of people that do,and the same with drugged drivers.
I lost friends to drunk driver, who cant even remember doing it.
I hope she never does it again.
I think they will turn her down sadly,as i just spoke to my friend who is a lecturer at uni,and she says they are really hot on most offences but drink driving is a biggy.good luck. |

Yep the DUI charge will show up on her record, so I guess that means she wont be going to unvieristy. She should have though about that before getting in the car. |

yes it will there is no excuse for drink driving saying she was a bit silly or foolish doesn't excuse it sorry but if it helps her act more responsibly then all may not be lost just be thank full no one was killed by her being abit foolish on a lighter note there are other university's that will accept her |

Yes it will and quite rightly too if she is convicted hopefully not getting into the uni will be punishment enough, i think there is no punishment big enough for someone who drinks and drives, it is despicably irresponsibly. |

It's not going to do her any favours, there again, as she will always have to sell herself harder in interviews and jobs, it may contribute to her being in demand as an excellent teacher. |

Yes if she is convicted then it is whats called a "recordable offence" and will show up on any employment checks for the rest of her life. I would suggest she takes advantage of a course which the court may recommend which will reduce her ban if completed. I would think that the uni will take each matter on its own merits and judge accordingly. You have not stated what her intoximeter readings were which is the level of alcohol in her breath. The higher this is, the longer the ban. Thank god she didn't kill anyone or she would be looking at a custodial sentence. |

Yes. Drink Driving is the new 'anti-social' offence, carries a heavy penalty, will on her licence for 10 years and will stop her getting the job, unless she has a really good excuse for this conduct. |

My stepson was killed by a drunk driver. Your niece should be on her hands and knees thanking god that she did not kill anyone. As far as the teaching background check.... It takes time for the conviction to go on your record. There has to be a conviction/resolution to the offense. |

Once she goes to court and is formally charged and convicted it will show up on her record. She needs to get a lawyer right now because if this is a first offense she may be able to get the charge lowered to something not quite a severe and keep her place at school. It will cost quite a bit but it might be worth it in the end.
I'm in no way saying she should get out of it because this is way more then a simple "stupid kid" thing to do...but hopefully she can get her life on track and not make this huge error in judgement again. |

Drink-driving is seen as a considerably serious offence because it means you are potentially putting another person in danger as well as yourself. It is a conviction and it sounds like they will decline the offer.. hate to break it to you. |

Alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and nonfatally injure someone every two minutes . This is a felony, NOT a misdeamor, and is a federal offense. Yes, most likely she will be declined. Unless, the court makes a decision other than what you are expecting, but probably not |
