You will be banned, unless of course you are the Son of an ex Special Constable and then you will be able to get away with it at least 4 times. I know, disgraceful!. |

For simple drink driving it's a mandatory 12 month ban and a fine. If there are aggravating factors, such as being involved in a collision, giving an exceptionally high reading etc. then the ban will be increased and so will the fine. It won't end there, when you apply for insurance on the expiry of your ban you will probably find that you will only be able insure your car through a specialist company at a very high price, this will be the case for several years. Should you elect to ignore the ban and drive whilst disqualifed you can look forward to going to prison. |

someone i know just got done for that...she was unbelieveably close to the point of drunkeness that gets u sent down, but fortunately she was just under and so recieved a year and a half driving ban (cut down by 25% if she attends counselling thingy) community service and a small fine of like £80.
and she crashed into a stationary vehicle.
although she did have personal problems, so she may have had a reduced punishment. |

A ban is mandatory. Generally it is 12 months, which can be reduced by 3 months if you take a drink / drive awareness course.
What reading did you give on the intoxilyzer? If you were three or four times over the limit the ban could be more. |

It will be a minimum of twelve months, but it could be upto any number of years depending on the conditions at the time, for instance,
were you speeding,
were you driving erratic or dangerous
were you driving in a built up area where children were playing etc.
At the end of the day, it is down to the magistartes discretion.
I have known people to be banned for three years on their first DD conviction, it depends on the amount of alcohol content in your body at the time of arrest. |
