I for one enforce this particular law as it reduces the danger to others caused by people who think their phone call is more important than the safety of others. No one gets away with it when I catch them.
As for reporting it to the Police when you've witnessed it yourself, it is theoretically possible to enforce this particular law in this way but it probably wouldn't stand up in court if it was contested by the defendant. As with driving whilst disqualified, it really has to be witnessed by a Police Officer to stand a realistic chance of a conviction. |

It's pointless reporting them to the police unless you have actual proof...only the police themselves can catch you because they are the law and never lie.... |

Is this a question?
I just saw a cop on a cell phone.... I think I should report him? |

They should do something about it because it's an offence to use the phone while driving. |

It would take a lot of time for the police to follow it up, and it would come down to your word against the offending driver.
Police do prosecute if THEY see someone using a phone. |

Whenever I see them I'm also driving so cant get the number plate |

What are they suppose to do about it? By the time they find out who they are and track them down, the person won't be on the phone anymore and can simply deny it. If they even bother doing that much. By calling it in, you'll just be wasting their time. They have a lot more important things to do. |

Andrea, I'm not dismissing you but the police would never have time to deal with a report of someone using their phone whilst driving. In anycase it would be your word against theirs and would never make it to court. Obviously if the use of that phone caused an accident then your statement as a witness would be invaluable in assisting to convict them for driving without due care and attention.
Leave the police to deal with these people when they are caught in the act. I for one am quite happy to dish out a fixed penalty notice (3points and £60). |

yeah we dont prosecute people for hand held mobile phone whilst driving on second hand information, we have to catch people at it, it's written into the legislation.
Dont know where you get your information from.
But for all the idiots who reckons its a waste of time, the FACT is it kills people by reducing your concentration span, and then you only have one hand on the wheel.
I dont care if it ruins your phone calls, we prevent deaths by enforcing it.
You haters just dont give a crap about other people, your phone call is clearly more important. |

No, it's got to be a police officer who spots them. |

It's not illegal in every state; and by the time YOU pull over and find a phone and get a plate number to an officer, it'll probably have been in vain. |

They will ignore you, do you want to go to court and give evidence, do you, I doubt it. |

What I question is what about , eating, chewing sweets , tuning in the radio and talking to a passenger, they are all distracting, the problem with phones is that there are some who glance down to select Numbers and to text and forget that they are driving a ton of metal at a fast rate of knots making it a lethal weapon, as such you may as well shoot someone as I think it is still murder to think that phoning someone , that you could stop to do ,is more important than risking your life and more important the life of someone else, so if you personally think that a call to the police as a witness that the phone was being used at a accident , then I would be one of the first to do it, it could be confirmed by the police on the phones records, so do not be upset at other remarks , unfortunately the morons have yet to experience the loss of someone due to an idiot on a mobile phone |

I sometimes think that these laws are meant to lower the amount of people who use them. Without actually having any hard full scale missions to catch people. Most people are reasonably decent and law abiding, so making it an offence probably stops 90% of drivers from ever doing it again, lowering accidents without even the need to catch people. And if the police do see the odd person and fines them, this maintains the fear of capture to all us goody two shoes who are scared of being arrested. Mick |

I'm sure they would call out a armed SWAT team immediately and pump the muddyfunsters full of lead.
What do you think? |

You will tend to find that Police are looking for drivers using phones whilst driving, being drunk behind the wheel and going too fast whilst houses are robbed, people are stabbed or raped and kids are pinched. Sums it all up really. |

They will totally ignore you.
I have seen many times Mobile users drive past a Policeman in a Police car. The police have seen the act and ignored it. |
