I'm a nineteen year old female, full-time student attending a local university. I was pulled over last night and ticketed for possession of marijuana and drug paraphrenalia. I need help, I've never had a ticket before therefore my record is clean as can be. I only had about a gram on me, and a small glass pipe. I was truthful and cooperated well with the officer, willingly giving him everything upon request. I also allowed him to search my vehicle. What can I expect as far as penalties? I was never arrested, and Ive never been in legal trouble. I need some advice.. Please help!!

When i was sitting in the police car with the officer, he told me that considering i had a very small amount, had a clean record, cooperated well and am a full time student- the outcome could be much less than expected. However, I want to know to expect, and how much trouble this is really going to cause me.

I recommend getting a lawyer. In my state they have diversion programs for first time offenders. A diversion is a program that you go through and then it is wiped off your record if you complete the program.
Also you should not have cooperated with the officer. You did not have to let him search your vehicle or answer any of his questions. I recommend watching the videos from flexyourrights.org. Knowing and exercising your rights could have prevented the marijuana bust.

Being ticketed for it is a misdemeanor not a felony. You can expect to get a fine and possibly a few days in jail at the worst. |

the fines will probably be pretty minor. but yes you will probably have probation. and they can use this as an excuse not to hire you at a job. and it is a good excuse to have further searched done by police officers, seeing how you have a prior now. |
