Every bill in US currency has a serial number on it, and police write down the serial numbers in order to track them.

Notice on the $100 bill in the link above, the serial number is - FF 95594731 A - the police would keep a record of the numbers on all of the bills so whenever the suspect is taken down, if the serial numbers match they are charged with the crime. |
