Depends on agency. FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) IS a bootcamp. You reside at the training facility. Furloughs are given and you can go home but your primary residence during training is at FHP academy. Many others are the same way. Fed agencies in Glynco Ga, FBI academy etc. Lots of agencies require you to reside at the training facility. My law enforcement academy took place at a junior college though. I was home every night.
Physical training is not that bad if you are in shape. A high school athlete would have no problem competing at all. A fat assed couch potato who does 12 ounce curles all day may have significant problems. Generally though, if you are there, you've already done the research and discovered that you "belong" or you don't. You are inside doing academics alot and you are outside doing high risk stuff alot (defensive tactics, high speed driving, firearms etc.) some classes like patrol and traffic also take you out of the classroom so you are in and out of both environments quite a bit. |

Some departments require you to stay at the academy, like california highway patrol.
Others don;t.
LAPD for example is not like that.
You go in the morning, and come home in the evening.
recruit training is pretty hard. it is a little like military boot camp. They yell at you, its physical, and theres a mental side to it.
sometimes you will be in the class room learning rules, procedures ,etc, and then you might go outside for physical training, shooting, etc.
if you go to an academy like the california highway patrol, then you would stay there, but you get to visit with family on weekends.. |

Here in Ohio, if you attend the Ohio State Patrol Academy either as a trooper cadet or as a cadet sent by a PD, you stay there the entire time. You get to leave on some weekends but you have to earn the leave. Academies put on by colleges or private firms are usually part time and you do not stay there. |

Yes, you can, if you live closed to the Training facility. It is not boot camp, You can go home every weekend if you like |
