EVERYBODY PLEASE ANSWER!!! What is the best way of reducing youth crime?

Here is what I can tell you from 10 years of experience dealing with teenage criminals. They are very much aware that if/when they commit a crime, they will receive little to no punishment for it, by the justice system and by their parents. This is especially true for teenage girls, who are growing in numbers as the ones committing crimes. There needs to be harsher punishments to deter teenage criminal activity. Of course, discipline starts at home. Too many parents today would rather be their child's friend, instead of their parent.

Parents need to be held accountable for their children. If parents were punished as well, then maybe they would realize that they MUST be parents and not friends to their children. Time out doesn't work...spare the rod, suffer the child. Discipline is not abuse. In a few years when the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow we are going to regret not acting appropriately.

I think the government should go after the parents in a hard fashion and the parents should be able to go after the kids in a hard fashion like corporal punishment. Parents would be more concerned for their children if they had to spend several years in prison.

All of the answers posted so far are about the youth. In my opinion it needs to start with the parents. A parent that is more active in a childs life , not a parent who is trying to live vicariously (sic) through their child mind you, is the first and I belive best way to deterre youth crime. I don't care for this new age philosphy of live and let live I belive that a parent should know all of their childs friends and where they are I belive in spankings to a certian age and grounding there on out. If the child is 8 or 18 I firmly belive if they are under the parents roof they should live by their rules. cliche? Maybe but that is how I was raised and how I will raise my children.

love at home... parents that care what their children are doing, parents that love their children, tougher laws won't change how the youth act... it starts at home, and kids nowadays need to remember that they can rise above any bad influence...

1. Host seminars at local schools and discuss topics
2. Get parents active in their children's daily activities
3. Host seminars for parents and discuss the importance of reducing the youth crime
I think parents should talk to their children and be more conscious of what they are doing.

Let parents spank their children. When I was young my dad would spank us with a belt and I never did whatever he spanked me for again! As long as the parents arent beating their kids I think it is a good deterent. Also youth activity programs, crackdown on gangs and harsher punishments.

Seriously, if we put more effort into teaching our children they wouldn't have to teach themselves how to live. The problems that they find would be less and the 'fixes' for their mistakes would be easier. In other words, make parents take more of an active role in rearing their kids. Don't leave it to impersonal schools, peers and TV.

Here's the deal, our judicial system only trains good citizens that messed up a bit to become criminals. Think about your parents, or the average parents, did they ever get arrested for smoking pot? If not, do you think they would have been better people if they went to jail at 18 years old? of course not.
The key to this is absolutely more parental control. We've all had those friends who's parents let them do whatever they want, and it's those same friends who get into pot and gangs, because the same parents think their children are just in the experimental phase.

The courts do not want to stop crime...no really..think as this...
You own a hamburger stand and you make hamburgers to sell..Poeple buy them and you make money...simple money making 101 right?
Well what happens one day, we found out that hamburger are no good for you...It will harded you blood and clog your arideries..so nobody is buying your hamburgers..So you go out of busniess..
Well the same goes for Courts too...if crime goes down, then a lot of cops will lose their jobs, we don't need all these overpaid judges and the world will be a better place.
This is America...we make money and the people in law enforcement want to keep their jobs, So you will see the most stupid laws ever just because these crack head want to retired with no worries.
In fact crime has came down over the years, but we are now putting Dead Beat Dads in jail, also get those people who copy movies...the real criminals.
Now you will see a increase in the police force because congress wants 400,000 new jail cells made through out this great land of ours...so not now but in the furture, if you don't pay you light bill, well then it off to jail you go.
Going back to Dead Beat Dads..I know this is a problem, but what good does it do to put them in jail.The kids don't get any money. The Moms can get revenged if the want to. And most of all, what does the kids think of there Dads now..."Daddy is bad person."
How about work release, this way you take their freedom, they are paying child support and the court make money because you have to pay for rent while you are in work release...
And most of all.we don't have to let the real criminals out of jail early because we need to make room for Dead Beat Dads. Also here is a point of interest. The court will let a child molester or a robber, or even a killer out of jail just to make room for Dead Beat Dads.

Jobs.
Youth activity programs.
More severe jailing environments.
And also making self destructive acts legal (Drug use and suicide).
