Do these ebay scammers who scam, lets say £5,000 have the police coming to the door, and if not, why??

ebay seem to be washing their hands of problems at the moment. Although there has just been that case of a woman selling holidays that didn't exist - think she's being sent to prision. ebay need to buck up their ideas, their site isn't as safe as it used to be and there are too many scammers making the website much less fun than it used to be. In the beginning you could get a bargain, now you're more likely to get scammed. |

Buyer BEWARE, because some businessman created a cheap easy way for people to get a hold of each other and operate scams, it does not mean that public funds now need to be spent to police it. A buyer/seller contract is a civil issue, don't waste the police resources or time. |

Tracing an Internet scammer is technically possible by tracing the IP address which in turn would locate the computer via the ISP.
However, how are you ever going to prove who pressed the keys on the keyboard? Or locate the user if the IP address links back to an Internet cafe? Or a laptop?
It's easier said than done and not always viable. |

We've arrested a couple here but most of the cases involve multiple jurisdictions or people from another country. The multiple jurisdiction cases don't fall within the dollar amounts that federal agencies investigate here but I don't know what it would be like in the UK. |

no chance , these people are not going to input their home address into their account details are they ??? they will open up accounts and transfer the money and take it out and be off b4 ebay get a wiff of the many people who have been scammed . there are 2 many dodgey people in the world. |

I have been told (but cant guarantee it) the Ebay and the police work hand in hand when possible and may even have permanent policemen in their offices. I often report scam items on Ebay and mostly (not always) they are removed within 24 hours so they do something. Check a feedback score and if a high value item say you want to come and see before bidding. When the seller says they will be away know THAT IT IS FAKE and maybe a hijacked account = report it and dont bid. Definitely a case of too cheap is too dangerous. Small amounts (up to £100) are normally safe, just check the feedback is 100% before bidding. |

i reported to the police when i found my stolen mobile phone on ebay they did nothing about it , the seller was in the right area and i identified the scratch on the screen etc........ it was nicked along with my purse /cards and all my holiday money |

Most scammers are people who Hijack other peoples accounts..
So if you do get the details of the account holder he is probably just as innocent as you.
Just avoid from signing in through emails, only sign in from the eBay home pages. |
