Ex-girlfriend says I'm stalking her?

My ex gfriend filed a civil stalking order with the court because I called her 3 times after we broke up. I got a call from the police dept and they told me not to contact her again so obviously I stopped and havent since the phone call. I thought this was all over until I got served a paperwork. I called the court to set up a court date. The court date happens to fall on a day that I'm out of town for work. (I don't want to risk my job especially in the current state of the economy) Do you think this is serious? I The paperwork I got served was saying something about me being a terrorist. Anyways what do you think I should do. I called the court to reschedule and they won't. Am I going to be charged with this? it has all kinds of things that I can't do i.e own a firearm etc Is this really going to be on my legal record? Any legal advice or experience will help please.

I won't lie it was more than just the 3 phone calls. I made a joke in a text and was a bad mistake. She has a permit and carries a gun, I don't but as a joke I told her I got one and she needs to be civil if we ever ran into each other in public. VERY VERY STUPID of me I know but she didn't care. She laughed at me because she knows that I hate guns anyways we talked for about an hour after that. The next day she told me she was engaged so I was a little hurt won't lie and kinda kept calling. She used the text msg to file the case. I can see how it looks really bad but if you knew both of us you'd laugh. As soon as the cops were involved I dropped it completely then I find out she went to the court and said she's scared of me and I threatened her.

Sounds like it is not harassment in the number of phone calls you made but the content of the calls you made.

The papers did not likely say you were a terrorist, but it sounds like you are being charged with "Terroristic Threatening". This is a very serious charge and I would not miss that court date if I were you. Job or no job, you miss that court date and you could just kiss your job good bye completely because you will be in jail.

If you seriously can not make it at all no matter what, you need to hire a lawyer to be there on your behalf. If your lawyer shows up on your behalf they can file the proper papers for the extension you wish.

Lastly, if you do incur lost wages or damages stemming from this case, and you are found not guilty, consult your lawyer about filing a civil suit against her for damages.

I think you are not telling us the whole truth about how often you contacted her and what you said when you did contact her...Its probably a Terroristic Threat charge which means you threatened her somehow.....She doesnt want you anymore...Move on............

that's crazy man. some women can act like they are so important and someone would actually want to stalk them. *rolls eyes* i see what u mean. i wouldnt want to risk my job either. the economy is terrible. last week they gave me 6 hours (for the whole week) basically i just worked 6 hours on sunday and called it a day. Hey the way i see it. It's not fair. But at the same time i would want to lose my job. That way i could sue her backside for damages for unncessary behavior. (And sue real good too) and sue the legal system for forcing you to miss your job and therefore get fired. I would blame everything on them and turn it all back around. Jeez just from hearing about this i can't believe you even dated her. wow. but hey, you only called her 3 times after yall broke up. Well then again that's all your telling us. I don't know the situation. Good look. I would say explain everything to your boss at work. Show up at the court and explain everything to the jury. and what does a firearm have to do with anything? i think they're going over the top. Just go to court. And witness to the jury everything. be honest. and explain the damages and financial problems. for real. good luck man.

In my state if you go and agree never to contact her again it doesn't go on your record. (My friend filed a restraining order). Definately go though and hire a lawyer if you can afford it.

Get your lawyer to show up and tell him to post pone.The courts wont tell you that though.

Just get a lawyer/public defender..and tell him in 2days advance that you have to work he needs to file for a motion to reschedule..itll cost you but the judge will probly throw it out..?

If you can afford it, get a lawyer. Be sure to mention in court that since you were told not to contact your ex, you haven't. You better take the day off and go to court, otherwise a Protection Order will be put on you without you getting a chance to give your side of the story. You will only be criminally charged for any incidents that occur after the order has been served.

Do not worry about anything she wrote on the application. The court treats that as her side of the story, you will have a chance to tell your side. If you have had no contact with her since the police talked to you, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

MORE-Since you have added more, based on your extra info, you may want to file a Protection Order against her or request a mutual order with equal terms for both parties..

What in the heck is she charging you with? She must have made other charges than just phone calls. You need to get a lawyer if she did and do not ignore this. Explain the situation to your employer and tell them you have to get this dropped and removed from your record. If the accusations are false, you can petition the court to have it removed.

Why did you call her? If it was to get some info tell them it was business. If you are just being a clingy psycho, then quit doing that and tell them you will never talk to her again and you didn't realize you were bothering her.

Dude she dumped you. She said don't call. Don't call. It's that simple. No one likes to get dumped but you're probably better off without her. If she calls the cops after three phone calls think of how high maintenance she would be as a wife. You would probably never get a moment's peace.
