I'm 17, right now. I don't see how anyone in the hostage rescue team can possibly be less then 29 years old. To be in the hostage rescue team first you need to get a bachelors degree which will take four years, then you need to have been in swat or special operations in the military for 3 years ( I want to be a combat controller which is 6 year enlistment), then you need to be a regular FBI special agent for 2 years( what an understatement they are not regular at all). How old are these guys?! How can they train with delta force, the sas, and other elite units around the world in their 30s and 40s? I don't get it, anyone know?

Consider however, that FBI HRT is WAY different than most special operations in the military. While some might come from special ops, some also could be trained the way FBI wants them trained from the beginning which could be just as good or better (I know of a guy who went directly into a 3 letter organization, they wanted to train him the way they wanted it so that there was nothing bad, unproductive, or useless from military special ops).
Also, consider that world class athletes are often in their 30s and better than young guys (e.g. Lance Armstrong). The more you train in something specific the better you will be regardless of how well you do at other stuff. Being older and not as strong doesn't mean you can't be much better at a specific thing.
And another thing, many, many, many special operations guys in the military are at least 8-10 years and most are probably career guys. FBI HRT trains with Delta and the formerly-known-as SEAL Team 6 in some stuff.
If I had to guess I'd say that HRT is full of guys who obviously have degrees, who either were police officers for a few years and did amazingly well on their SWAT teams before going FBI OR were special operations guys who got a degree and went directly into the FBI and were seen for their raiding/hostage rescuing abilities. |
