I acquired a fake ID through my friend in England with a legal service there. It had my name and other information on it but a different date of birth. The filthy pigs were doing a sting (the only way this perfect ID could ever have been caught as it's got my picture on it and I use a flawless english accent) and got me, and wrote me a ticket for a fake ID card. I live in Columbia, MO.
So several of my friends explained that if I make it to 21 before my court date (which is currently scheduled about nine weeks before my birthday), it could be dropped. I talked to a lawyer and they said that they could help to get the date continued, but for a charge of around 400 bucks, which is about what the fine plus court costs would be.
So does anybody have any idea what the process should be here, do you reckon? Is it possible to get a date postponed on my own without paying a lawyer? Will the punishment be stiffer as it's got my picture and name on it? This is my first offense, for the record.

Don't listen to your friends or the sleazy lawyer.
Your current age is irrelevant. The offense still occurred. I'm assuming you were charged with possession of false ID by a person under 21 in MO.
I'd say you can continue it if you want to and you can do it without cost or inconvenience but know that the law doesn't make exceptions for people who turn 21 before their court date. Its just not a legal defense. The court may decide to be lenient but they don't have to. Just so you know max penalty for this in MO is $500 fine and 90 day license suspension.
Don't piss off the judge by trying to get off on a non-technicality. He'll probably max you out.
My advice: If they have good evidence, go to court, admit you were wrong and ask for leniency.
If they have bad evidence, plead not guilty and get a lawyer. $400 for a continuance is way too much and won't do anything. If you wanted to get a lawyer to defend you, you could probably do it for that amount or less. However, you'd be paying them the same amount or more than you would pay in fines (with no guaranteed result). There is a chance you could keep it off of your record though.

The offense occurred when you were under 21, you broke the law, and those "filthy pigs" gave you exactly what you deserve. Pay the ticket and grow the hell up. |

YOUR LAWYER IS TRYING TO SCREW YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY. HE TOLD YOU HE COULD GET IT CONTINUED TIL UR 21? TOO BAD THAT DOESNT MATTER TO THE LAW AS YOU WERE 20 WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. ALSO YOU STILL HAD A FAKE ID. IF YOU WERE 21 YOUD STILL GET ARRESTED FOR THIS AS IT IS A FAKE ID. DONT LET YOUR LAWYER CON YOU OUT OF MONEY. GO TO COURT AND FACE YOUR CONSEQUENCES. |

no this will not work. they have a copy of the fake id so even getting a real id they will still have proof u did. the only way to get the charges dropped now would to be getting rid of the evidence. still i would rather just pay the court. if you just accept you knowingly broke the law admit it they will be very soft on you because it was your first offense. |
