I think that is a poor choice to illustrate your point since it is a pending lawsuit by an aggrieved family rather than an established fact ruled on by a court.
Nevertheless, if we accept your basic premise - that there are corrupt police officers - where do we go from there?
I think you are raising a 'straw man' argument when you suggest that anyone really defends the position that Police are given 'unconditional' trust. I'm not personally familiar with anyone who thinks all Police everywhere are infallible.
The trust Police Officers are given is HEAVILY conditional. In order to become a Police Officer in the first place you have to undgergo an evaluation that exceeds what most people would ever tolerate to get a job. Once you are hired, you have to continue to subject yourself to examinations and evaluations; you are subjected to investigations almost every time someone is unhappy with what you do; your record follows you around everywhere you go and is considered every time you try to promote.

I really don't care, I watched the second one, the first link didn't work.
I think that you would have to be there to really know for sure what went on. I highly doubt that the officer went to work that day thinking I really want to shoot someone today.
It also looked like he (the runner) was reaching into his pants.
Apparently, esp. when dealing with minorities, these days the cops are supposed to wait till they are shot at before they can take offensive measures.

That is one cop out of 699,000 in the United States. Those are still pretty good numbers. |
