German Shephers, alarms, or weapons.. which is better for home protection?

Buy these items,
1. 2 large dog dishes,put on porch.
2. a "BEWARE THE DOG" sign for each window and door
3. a 12Ga. shot gun for the ones who can't read.
4. 1 box of #2 copper plated ammo for the shotgun, it'll end any arguement fast.

Get the dog, not only are dogs the best deterent to thiefs they contribute so much to your life and German Shepards are the best dog.

They do it in movies, but I don't know if you can easily disable an alarm in real life, but something tells me that it is difficult to do. But if he robber gets the past the alarm, it will have to get past the dog. I'm pretty sure that even if the burglar gives the dog a couple of sausages, it will at least make a noise. When you hear the noise run to your gun and confront the burglar. The gun has to be a small pistol or something, musn't be anything comlicated.

Purely a personal answer:

Alarm systems can be 'overcome' by professionals. One trick is to continue to trigger the alarm system over a period of time - you'll think that it is faulty and turn it off....

Weapons.....for me this is a bad option. Most people who buy weapons don't know how to use them, and probably haven't shot or killed a person before. When confronted by an armed robber...how would I react? I'd probably freeze.

German Shep....for me the best option...just from the barking alone they'll probably be a great deterrant....

A combo of an alarm system with the dogs would probably be better!

I would rather have a dog and a gun. So that way if they get passed the dog, I have the gun. Plus, if you just have the alarm in the house, then its going to take a little bit for the cops to get there, and do you really want to risk something happening to your family while waiting for the cops to get there.

I highly trained a German Shepard & Pitbull mix dog .and i never felt safer.No one dared come near my home with evil intent.he could tell bad people.when he didnt like a person i had over I told them never to come back.he rarely didnt like someone.
he was an amazeing dog.my brother offered me two thousand dollars for him. but I wouldnt have taken a million.
You have to train the dog.But a pistol in the house doesnt hurt a thing.I can throw a knife accuratly as far as I can throw it.
and know Karate.But if you were a burgler and wished to break in a home, you would not pick the one with the dog.around or in it.now would you?

The dog, it is amazing how effective dogs are. Just be careful about kids. Hardening your property with grilled windows and solid doors with good locks plus alarms is up there as well. These things deter thieves.
Weapons are a very distant third. Weapons are not going to prevent entry, and are likely more dangerous to the owner than to the thieves. Weapons might even be a temptation to thieves.
Alarms and dogs can both work to protect your property even when you are not there.

If you watch the news a lot more kids are killed with guns owned for protection than are mauled by dogs. But never leave dogs and kids unwatched. Maulings do happen.

- A gun is the best bet. All you have to do is feed it bullets and it will attack when and what you want it to.

-A dog you have to get tags for, feed, clean up sheit, love it.. etc. They also cost alot over time.

-Alarms cost alot of money.

ALL three.... but definitely a weapon within reach... dogs and alarms can be disabled in seconds contrary to what the sellers of same may tell you... and anybody that dosnt believe that we are rapidly approaching this senario has got their head in the sand up to their you know what.... ever burgular i have talked to would rob a house with an alarm on it versus the one with the dag barking at them alarms go off to the dispatch for the company company then calls 911 talks to a call taker who puts it in the computer for the cops takes about 5 mins so they can grab it and be gone already in other word burgular will not rob the house with the dog scared and noise and go to another one

an alarm is perfect, it goes off when windows are broken doors are opened and things like that. Dogs that are trained to be friendly to family and friends tend to be freindly to intruders as well. Also weapons are the worst Idea, because if you dont wake up with someone in your house and they find the weapon what use is it going to do. Also if its locked in a safe buy the time you get it open it may be too late.
Get an alarm, just the fact it goes off may be enough to deter crooks, also the sign in your yard sometimes is all that you need. If your seriouse about home safety, buy an alarm and use it. You wont have to feed it, and it can never be used against you.

Motion sensor lighting around your home and driveway.
Alarm system that you use religiously and a sawed off hanging over the front door.
Lights flicking on if someone approaches your home is a great deterant. A barking dog is no biggy. Lot's of people have dogs that bark.
Dogs can easily be subdued with some food or a tranquilizer dart.

what are you so scared of? i have a shepard and you have to understand he will go crazy at every car or person that goes by your house. are you ready for that? i would get an alarm since you also get stickers to put on your windows and doors to notify potential thieves. how is a gun deterent? unless you put a sign up that "says no tresspasing will shoot on site?" alarm 1, dog, 2, bat 3....
