Going on a police ride along, what should i ask?

Remember that a police officer knows you as a ride along, other then that, s/he does not know if your a plant by the department, or just a real ride along.
I always was open to my rides and had some interesting conversations and different view points over the years.
Always remember that "You don't just board your best horse with anybody."
Sit back, be inquisitive, watch, learn, enjoy the ride.

LOL @ Buford. Cops do have a sense of humor sometimes...and I thought that was funny!

Just be yourself. I like for my ride-a-longs to be observant and listen. Ask about the officers career, how they got started, what they like best about it...etc... Whatever you do don't ask Have they ever shot somebody? Have they ever tased somebody? Or do they know such and such officer? Be prepared for a the eye roll if you do. Just be your self, have fun, and don't get in the way.

What ever interest you.. I am sure the officers will also give you some ideas if you will ask.. Good for you for being civic minded..Most police work is 7 hrs and 45 minutes of routine work with 15 minutes of shear terror..Hope you will have a better understanding of their responsibilities and devotion to duty.. Police work is a very thankless job as you will find out..

I'd ask him what he looks for that would draw his attention to illegal activity. Do you have confidence in your co-workers that they will assist you quickly if needed. How long does it take to get a real feel for the job and instinctively knowing when things don't appear right. Good Luck on your project and for your approaching gradudation.

Ask how they're able to handle tense situations while also having to keep in mind rules and procedures involving due processes, rightful searches, etc., sometimes hear some interesting things on due process from officers in my grad. program.

"Have you ever pulled over any females and gotten them to 'pay' their ticket through means other than cash {wink wink}"?

Ask if you can play with the lights then question why the lights go "whoop whoop" and mention how over in Europe the lights go "WaaaaWaaaa" ask them to distinguish between the differences. If you see a pack of cookies (Pepridge Farm) specifically DO NOT EAT THEM even if their milano DO NOT GIVE INTO TEMPTATION.
