Going to bed the other night,I noticed people in my shed stealing things...I phoned the plod, but was told....?

...no one was in the area to help. They said they would send someone over as soon as possible.
I hung up. A minute later I rang again. 'Hello,', I said, 'I called you a minute ago because there were people in my shed. You don't have to hurry now, because I've shot them.'
Within minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area, plus helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the officers said: 'I thought you said you'd shot them.'
To which I replied: 'I thought you said there was no one available'.
So what is going on here? What better priorities could there have been than catching smackheads?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Yes, that is very typical. Unless there is blood and guts, it can be hard to get the help you need. That was rather clever of you, must admit. Could you tell us where you are from? I have never heard teh word "plod"before in reference to the "cops" as we say in the US. |

Lol if you really did that its funny. Im surprised that wouldnt get you into a bit of trouble for lying to the police. But you're right - thefts and things dont really rank for the police anymore and in a way its just making the message that its fine to steal because nothing will happen anyways. |

I think your action was hilarious. I don't think I would have done that, but I applaud your bravery. I am a little shocked that you didn't get a citation for reporting false information, though. |

If this isn't a joke, I'm surprised you didn't get cited for a false report. |

Well my dad has always told me that most police are lazy and will wait until someone else comes in so they have to deal with it. |

cool. we reported that a cd player had been stolen from our truck. the police never came out. however, the neighbors had the same thing happen that night and they knew someone on the force and the police came right out. |

Oh man, you're great.
My roomate used to work at a gas station in the middle of nowhere, and her car had already been broken into before... Her co worker's car had its windows smashed in and stuff was stolen. They called the cops, they said that they'd be there shortly. 20 minutes later (enough time for the state boys to be down there) no one showed up. They waited a half hour more and called them again and they finally got someone out there more than an hour after the first call. I don't think cops really care about burglaries anymore. |

The law as I see it:
"Hey, man, sorry for your bad luck, but crackheads stealing out of suburban sheds are just not that big of a deal. But God forbid you shoot them protecting your property, then it is an issue."
Good move, man. I would have done the exact same thing. And if they try to prosecute you, bring it to the judge's attention how "no one was available". |

ewwwww! very clever but maybe a slippery slope. filing a false report or some such non-sence. i'm just glad the lawn equipment made it out ok! |

you could have been cited for filing a false police report |

i hope you realize that you just committed a crime. you also compromised the safety of everyone in the area. and for what, some property that is replaceable? police officers do what they can to stop crimes when they can, but their primary job is to save lives, investigate crimes, and uphold the law. you are lucky they didnt arrest you along with the criminals. |

I've seen this joke on the Internet. Nice try. The irony is funny though. Just like being put on hold with the suicide hotline. |

That's an oldie, but a goodie. If we were allowed to shot these kind of scumbags, I guarantee those crimes would decrease overnight. |

problem is, you just changed a B & E call
to ''filing a false report'... |

Nice job.
Though if the cops are that reluctant to respond to a burglary, then you best get yourself a couple of good dogs and maybe a gun. |
