I am 24 and just got a DUI. I wasn't told my BAC but I'm pretty sure it was through the roof and I had NO BUSINESS driving. I made a turn the wrong way down a small alley that was One-Way the wrong direction :/ The cop flashed his lights and that was it.
I already got a lecture so I don't need one. I got caught up with the wrong crowd the past few months and need to stay away from them.
I was cooperative with the officer, did everything he told me to do, etc. They said they will send me paperwork in 4-6 weeks once the bloodwork comes back. Other than this, my driving record is clean. Someone mentioned ARD... what happens with this/next? Am I going to lose my license? I'm scared.

Every state has different laws re: DUI, some tougher than others. Bottom line is that it's gonna cost you a bundle.
Your license will be suspended for 3 mos. to a year.
You'll have to get SR22 insurance for, I think, 2 years, and that runs around $300.00 a month.
You'll be on probation for a year.
The court might make you put an ignition lock device in your car. You have to blow in it before you can start the car. That runs at least $200.00 a month.
You'll have to attend many classes all of which cost bucks. If I were you, I'd start the A.A. meetings now (you'll have to go anyway), just to show the judge that you're taking this very seriously.
You might have to do a certain number of hours of community service.
You'll have a DUI on your record for a minimum of 7 years. In some states it's 10 years.
I agree with the person that said DO NOT GO TO COURT WITHOUT A DUI LAWYER!! That can cost anywhere from $3500.00 to 10K. It ain't cheap, but it could save you some grief. |

As well you should be scared, you should be VERY scared! On top of possible jail time, it is going to be VERY costly for you. Probably when all said and done, about $5,000 or more.
You could get any, or all of these:
Jail
Probation (which will include NO alcohol for the probation period)
Community Service
Alcohol classes
Drivers license suspended
Fines and Court costs
Attorney fees
Much higher auto insurance
DO NOT go to court without a lawyer! |
