Got a speeding ticket at 106 in 70 mph zone in CA. What will happen?

Now I understand I was well over the speed limit. 36 mph to be exact. and I understand 16 - 25 mph is $266 fine regardless.

I can tell you now I was only going so fast because I saw the exit and had to use the restroom. You know how that feels, and well just imagine getting over a bladder infection.

The officer let me go with only a speeding ticket. This is my first traffic violation, I don't normally go over 80 but I can't really hold in my pee. I was wondering how to go about this, I will plea guilty but I have a reason for my actions.

Will I be able to go to traffic school or not? I was also wondering if it's possible that I get my court appearance changed closer to where I am because I don't think I like the idea of driving 4 hours up north only to get my license suspended.

Hey GrimJack, I never said anyone else wasn't important. I don't think you understand how it feels for a girl to have a bladder infection. So please don't be sarcastic with me since I am very serious about this matter. At least I admit I was going fast.

Assuming you are an adult, not a juvenile:

You are not charged with simple speeding. You are charged with going over 100 mph. That is a far more serious offense. It is a mandatory court appearance (you cannot take care of it online or through the mail), and traffic school is not available. The scheduled fine is $815. It is two points with DMV, which is not going to help your insurance costs, and the court can suspend your drivers license for up to 30 days. Your only hope is that you can convince somebody to reduce the matter to simple speeding, which is only one point and a lower fine. It would be a miracle if anybody reduced it AND let you go to traffic school.

On the other hand, this is not reckless driving, your license will not be suspended for more than 30 days, and no jail time is possible because it is still an infraction, not a misdemeanor.

You cannot change the county where the offense occured. If you don't want to drive back to the court, you can hire an attorney to appear for you, and an attorney might have a better shot at working the matter out. Given the possible punishments, that might be worth the cost. There are lots of attorneys who specialize in traffic tickets who can be found online.

BTW, the fine for going 26+ over the limit is $435, and for 16-25 it is $321 ($55 is added to every fine in 2009).

You need to do 2 things, 1st is get a Lawyer and the second thing is to get a Lawyer! You could be facing a huge fine, suspended license or jail time if you plead guilty. Your reason will not hold up, especially without a Lawyer presenting your case. Good Luck!

chances are you will lose your license for wreckless driving...the officers and judge sometimes give first time offenders a break (if they otherwise have a clean driving record) but since you were going 36 mph over the speed limit dont b surprised if the judge "really puts it to you"

a lawyer can change where you go to court and what date. as for the speed you where going, you need to have it reduced to at least a 34 mph over since the DVM will suspend your license for anything over 35mph regardless of reason. best bet is to get a lawyer my friend. gl

Go ahead and drive 106 mph. I'll make it my responsibility to get out of your way any time you have to pee. In fact, I'll just assume that if someone needs to go that fast and I'm on the same road, that it's my fault for being on that road and getting in the way of everyone who has a bladder infection.

In fact, maybe I shouldn't drive to work at all if I'm going to get in the way of people like you who really have to pee.

Traffic school... MAYBE? but chances are you will get in trouble for wreckless driving... probably lose your license. and you wont be able to change where you have your hearing.. you have to have it in the town the ticket was issued.

Its likely that you are going to recieve a notice for the violation within the next 30 days. It will tell you the fine amount and/or the date of the court appearance. You can then call the courthouse and try and handle it but since the violation is for speeding at over 100 mph, they are likely not going to allow you to take care of it locally if a court appearance is mandatory. You will be required to go to the county in which you got the ticket.
If you are lucky, you may just be able to pay the fine (link states it will be no more than $500) but it also states that you can have your license suspended for up to 30 days.
In all honesty, their concern is not WHY you were speeding. Im sorry, but they are not going to care about your bladder infection.

The only time its valid to violate a law is if the law itself puts you into more danger than the the danger from which the law protects you. In this case, urinating yourself may be humiliating, but is not as hazardous as causing a six-car pileup on the freeways.

Hire a cheap traffic lawyer - they are a dime a dozen. If the judge is not a hard-nose, the lawyer should be able to have the charges dropped below reckless driving. If you have medical documents for your bladder infection, they may even be able to garner some sympathy from the judge to drop your ticket to a minor traffic violation.

Like the person prior to me mentioned, you will be required to attend court in the county of the offense since you were driving so fast. Your lawyer can usually represent you if the journey is too distant, but a 4 hour drive is nothing. You should feel lucky you weren't arrested on the spot - several states have automatical detentions if you drive at speeds much lower than 106mph.

well as it being your first offense you should get a little break but reckless operation is usually a 6 month suspension

i was also recently pulled over goin 110 in a 65 w/out a suspended license, no insurance and improper lane changes and got 3 days in jail only because of the driving under suspension so you dont have to worry bout that but got a 3 year license suspension.
