Got pulled over for going 16 over.?

They had their dumb laser gun, but I was only going 9, or 10 over, and he wrote me down for 16. He said I was going 16 over, but unless my spedometer lies, I wasn't... But since I am 16 I have to go to court he says, so what does this look like... since he wrote me for 61 in a 45 zone that I was only going 55 in (Yes I know, it was still speeding.) and when he asked if I was in a hurry, I said yes, got to be home for the kids when they get home, and he wrote down, "Said he was late for the dentist". I don't have a dentist appointment even anytime soon! what about all that can be done.. I really can't afford/handle a ticket.. and if so, how much do you think it will be?

I live in Georgia.. for those asking.. and theres no fine on the back, just a number, no fine or court date.

Thats a pretty dumb question, what are you ten years old. What does the word limit mean on speed limit to you. You are whinning about how much you broke the law, not that you didn't. You sound exactly like the kind of driver I don't want driving.

Rock Firestorm
The idiots here telling you you can fight it are of course guessing.

You have zero case. IT doesn't matter what he wrote where you were going. The fact is, you admitted to speeding when he asked you. That's it, case closed.

But feel free to fight it. You will lose and have court costs added to your fines. I know it's not what you want to hear but either you want the truth or a bunch of baloney, which is what most people here are telling you.

Um where do you live? I have never had a cop write down my answers to any questions other than my name speed etc etc, not the reason for speeding. You go to court and get payments on it.

Ask your parents (or the courthouse) about 'amending it' (paying double the fine) so that it won't be on your record as a 'moving violation'but rather will look like a parking ticket... It's called 'amending a ticket.

Yes, it costs more, but if you get moving violations on your record it's bad for your records (could later take your license if you get too many) and... Your insurance could go up.

Good Luck! See: www.spiritlessons.com ACCEPT JESUS!

Well, you were going over the speed limit, so the ticket is justified. I think if you turn over the ticket, the fine is on the back. I would only contest it in court if there is a difference in fines for going 9 over versus 16 over. Otherwise, I think it's a waste of time. The reason why is that the court date and time is the same for other traffic and minor offense cases, so you could be waiting at court for the whole afternoon or morning depending on if you got the ticket in a fairly large town, where it's more likely to be super crowded.

I'd say 100 dollars to 200 dollars at the usual for a speeding ticket.

Cynical_Student
Speedometers in cars are usually incorrect anyway, and that is why you're usually allowed 5 mph over the speed limit (as long as its safe!) to counteract for this.

Whatever the case, you were going over the speed limit, and do deserve a ticket - although I am surprised that he wrote down 'late for dentist' when you were trying to get home for the kids. Mind you, he may have simply written that down, to avoid there being questions about why you weren't home before the kids in the first place.

But you were going over the speed limit, and therefore do deserve a ticket for doing so. You can try and get it overturned, but this is usually more hassle then its worth.

I don't know how much the fine will be, as I don't know where you live, but it will probably be a fixed amount, especially if its a first offence.

Well i wouldn't worry, if this was your first ticket you can go to a safe driving course. They usually last 3-4 hours and the judge will remove the violation from your record and you do not have to pay for the ticket. However this may only apply in some states. Good luck and try not to worry

sometimes you get pulled over by the right cop or the wrong cop

i was pulled over when i was 18 when driving two of myfriends home it was midnight and in a bad area the cop though i was looking to buy or sell drugs
..

but then realized i wasn't
i was going 65 in a 35 zone but i didn't know it and the cop was going to let me go but another cop pulled up to see whats going on so he had to write me a ticket but he put on it that i was only going 10 miles over so i wouldn't have to go to court

i go pulled over another time and the cop told me i was going 55 in a 40 mile zone OOPS! cause this time i knewn i was
but he let me go with out even a warining i got some cool cops out here

but my friend was only going 55 in a 45 zone and got a ticket saying she was going 65 on it

it wasn't her lucky day

Have your speedometer calibrated by a certified mechanic in your area....no backyard mechanics! It's possible your speedometer is off. Take this info to court....the judge may be willing to reduce the speed to 55 - what you admitted doing. It's also possible he will throw it out altogether - they have that option. (He may stick it to you though, just because you're so young & he wants you to learn a lesson) Just act remorseful....whether you feel you did something wrong or not, it helps a lot! He could also offer you traffic school, it won't help with the fine but it will keep the points off of your driving record. You can only go so many times in your life so don't make this a habit.

Your ticket will probably run somewhere around $150.

The only way to fight the ticket is to question the calibration on the unit. Most states consider 15 and over, reckless driving. There will be a phone number at the bottom of the ticket. This is for the traffic division of the clerks office. They can give the amount of the ticket. Inquire at that time if a ticket deferral is offered in that city or state.

you deserve the ticket you got.....you won't be getting it thrown out
and if you can't afford a speeding ticket.....don't speed (should be obvious)

the ticket will PROBABLY be between $100-200
and instead of looking at it as 'a dumb cop with his dumb laser gun'
look at it as a lesson
stop breaking the law, and you'll stop being punished

Also, that "dumb laser gun" is much more accurate than your speedometer
many people fail to realize that the speed they're seeing in the car can be very different from the speed they're actually going.
(64 on my bike is actually 55)

You should go to court ad bring proof that you didn't have a dentist appointment, and clearly point out that this man is delusional

LoLo
You cant really argue against the ticket in court since you signed it and you are supposed to read it before signing. You could ask to do a day in jail instead of paying the fines.I personally would take the time over the money and just get it done. Good luck.
