Do you think that if you make it illegal for anyone to care a weapon the criminals will obey? What if other students were armed would the shooter have been able to kill so many the answer is no. Tighter laws will only make it worse of the Innocent no the criminals. There is no answer to make this better it is just a massacre and very sad.

No this guy could have gotten a gun from any number of illegal sources and tightening up gun laws would do NOTHING.

Marijuana and cocain are also illegal in this country and have been for many many years, but access to illegal drugs is VERY easy. The same will happen with guns.

Virginia Tech enforces a no weapon policy on campus. Who had the weapon? The person who wished to break the law and murder others and was not going to follow the rules anyway. Who didn't have guns? The innocent, honest people who were slaughtered because they did not have a means to defend themselves.

If the government takes away our guns, only the criminals will have them.

As an Australian I believe yes it would make a difference. We have stricter gun laws here and while we have suffered a similar tragedy at Port Arthur it has been one time, while in America it seems to be a regular occurence. If gun laws are made tougher and people have to do more to get these guns, they may not do it. You can almost impulse buy a gun in America. Available in department stores or pawn shops like they are any other item. Also military style weapons such as automatic and semi-automatic rifles should not be allowed to be owned by civilians. Surely the statistics of fatalities from gun shots in America compared to other countries fully supports the argument that America need stricter gun laws.

Stricter gun laws would not have prevented the killer in the VT tragedy from acquiring a weapon. If he was determined enough to actually perpetrate this heinous crime, he would have found a way to purchase one on the black market, the same way a dope fiend can always find their next blast, despite the fact that drugs are illegal and billions of dollars are spent on fighting them. Gun laws only take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens because criminals can find them regardless.

yes America has to do something as this kind of thing has happened time and time again in the USA that it has not been addressed is disturbing i mean how many more massacre do they need before something is done.I understand the arguments against this and see there point of view i really do but, i believe the UK and Australia should be used as a reference, they banned fire arms after similar mass shootings and neither have had mass shooting since yes gun crime does exist in both countries but the fact that a psychologically disturbed person has yet to open fire on mass since they were made illegal America however has had several in the years since these countries banned guns and since i don,t believe America has more deranged people than the next country you are led to believe the right to bear arms is the reason. I am from the UK and would not know were to start even if i wanted a gun yet i know exactly were to go in America so yes banning guns is not the perfect answer they will still exist but it is a answer which is more than people who would like to keep guns has.

1%er said "it was a law abiding citizen that did the VA killing". That is absolutely ridiculous. Last I checked, shooting people was illegal except if they are threatening you or others. "Gun Free Zones" are more accurately referred to as "Criminal Protection Zones".

Currently there are many laws on the books in different states that effectively prevent people from legally obtaining guns. The problem is the criminals. In New York state there are 2 items I feel need to be confronted.
1) You don't need a license to obtain a shotgun.
2) You don't need a license to obtain bullets.

Now while #1 amazed me beyond belief, #2 is something I've been considering for a while. The current law assumes that only people with licenses will buy bullets for their guns. but what about guns that are stollen or obtained by people without licenses. If you needed to show your existing permit in order to purchase bullets only for that gun, it would cut down on illegal gun use because:

1) It's much more profitable to sell an illegal gun than to sell the bullets.
2) If someone steals your gun, they wouldn't have the permit to buy the bullets.
3) You don't need a permit to buy a gun at gun shows, but you would still need it to buy bullets.

Yes, I know all of the crazy people can still get permits and kill people. I'm talking about minimizing the chances by cutting down on the theifs and the kids who bring their parents guns to school.

We have gun control and the more we have the higher the crime rate.

We need to make people accountable for their criminal acts. The Liberals want to make the Criminal the Victim and Society the Criminal.

I agree with you. After all, it was a law abiding citizen who did this Va killing. So all law abiding citizens must be locked up to protect, uh, wait....that doesn't make any sense.
