Gun violence in America?
Find answers to your legal question.

Gun violence in America?

Why don't they just ban guns? Britain has been fine with our 'no gun' policy we have about 1-5 gun crimes every year. Whereas USA has numerous shooting, armed robberies and murder with guns.

Seems to me the only way to bring that level down is to ban guns.

You're right, but it's too late 'cause there's too many out there.

Great Britain should ban soccer. It's not the guns...It's uncivilized society. Idiots breeding little idiots undermine polite society.

Britain bans guns in its own country but are the second biggest exporter of guns in the world......Canada has twice as much guns as the USA and little gun crime. The only reason its so rife in the states is the dramatic and over the top media that make everyone scared.

WHY , Other than a handful of bizarre incidents like the amish school , crime in the US has been going down greatly in recent years , where in the UK where they have all but banned guns , crime is skyrocketting. NEVER GIVE UP FREEDOM FOR SECURITY!

I agree that banning of guns would solve a lot of these shootings, but as the bumper stickers say, Make it a crime to own guns and only criminals will own guns.

Due to the constitution, since it states a right to bare arms, the freedom to own is a priviledge though many mar that with using it as a weapon to gain profit or power over someone else. Due to the population of this country, banning guns would be impossible and probably start a rebellion of the owners against the government.

yes but i have a right to bare arms.. lets see 4 at home..
if guns are outlawed then only outlaws would have them

Look at London's crime rates and tell me how good England is doing. The banning of firearms is not the answer to crime. We have seen crime rates skyrocket in areas with strict gun control, Washington D.C. for example. We have also seen tyrannies stem from gun control, Nazi Germany is a prime case of this occuring. "And the citizens shall have arms for their defense,"- English Bill of Rights 1689. You may not like firearms, you may not wish to own them, that is your own perogative, but don't you dare attempt to hijack my rights to fufill your own misinformed crusade.

It's written into our constitution that we have the right to bear arms. Besides, we wouldn't give them up. The more freedoms you give away the less likely you can ever get them back. No one better come to my door asking for my guns. Look at the real statistics in the UK here.

That's a lie, it does not work, just like all other liberal ideas fail and make things worse. What good will it do to take away the ability of honest citizens to protect themselves? Criiminals will not abide by the rule you make to not own them.

Imagine a cowboy movie, a gangster movie or a war movie where the honest citizens are disarmed and only the criminals ar the ones with the guns. Well, real life is the same way.

That makes no sense all. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

i dont think that would solve the problem of gun violence
a very small percentage of gun crime com fo the avage gun licensed american
most gun crimes involve illegal guns obtained on the black market anyways
its more a problem of the social class then gloverment ineffivientcy

you are wrong on your "facts" and I carry a Colt 45 1911 on me everyday in case somebody wants to try to kill me or rob me and I am glad I live in a country that lets me protect myself and if somebody breaks in my house I can kill them with my automatic Sten MK2 sub machine gun and its real fun to shoot it you might remember them your military used them in WW2 but now you cant have them and I hunt deer with my M1 Garand or my Barrett 50.cal BMG rifle I am glad I don't live in England

America exist because we beared arms against England, and some day we may have to start another tea party. It is in our constitution. Please read it your self the 2nd Amendment - Right to Bear Arms http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html

The way to bring down the level of killings in the US is for the media to quit sensationalizing it. Everytime some whacko decides to go on a killing spree the news media reports on it at nauseam. Day after day for hours at a time. This guy in PA no doubt heard about the guy in CO from a week ago that had some grudge against females, all blondes and held them hostage ultimately shooting one in the back of the head when she tried to escape. It must have triggered some repressed memory of how females had wronged him and the guy in PA held six young girls hostage and how did he decide to kill them? Execution style by shooting them through the head.

Banning guns will never happen. Tougher sentences and actually following through with these tougher sentences may. The creation of more Neighborhood Crime Watch organizations certainly would. There is no "magic bullet" that will cut out all violent crime but ignoring the problem or thinking "it can't happen to me" is being proven wrong on a daily basis. Another big problem in the States is these civil rights watch groups which has come to the defense of protecting the rights of the accused and convicted instead of *first* searching for the truth of guilt or innocense. I can understand insuring a fair trial but as it stands now the scales of justice are tipped in the favor of the criminals and not the victims.

Banatee... you couldn't be more misinformed or ignorant in your summation about Americans or the Amish for that manner. I would highly doubt that you could enter one Amish home and not find multiple guns. Shotguns, Rifles and even BB guns. The Amish rely on hunting their own game to put food on their tables. They butcher their own meat. They use those guns for this purpose. You should stick to passing along information for things you actually have knowledge of instead of displaying the level of ignorance of a rock. It seems to be an epidemic these days. And as far as judging my "value system", I'll put mine up against yours any day of the week. I'll make you look like the fool you are.

It is their constitutional right to bare arms. Many Americans feel this right is important to their freedom. Read the NRA web page and you will realise just how much they value this right. Not political party goes near banning guns since it is such a vote loser.

Its not actually the guns which is the problem, Canada has more guns per person than the USA and have far less gun crime.

The biggest problem is the misdistribution of wealth, either your well off or your poor and in many cases resort to violence to get by. Then because the well off people know the poor have to resort to violence, they buy guns as well to protect themselves.

This fear of getting mugged burgled or attacked by some mad terrorists is pumped out by the media, news reports etc., This causes fear and some people tend to be gun happy and shoot folk if they suspect they are after them or thier belongings.

The school or McDonalds massacres are caused by people having no where to go, a cat in a corner. If you arn´t like the model person shown by the media & adverts (nice looking, fit, business man) then you are an oddball. Some people can´t handle this, have no where to go for help so resort to the Rambo style kamikaze tactic of blowing poeple and themlselves away.

its too late to ban guns....this debate has failed despite taking place many times......so the only option is to make tougher laws to restrict purchase etc.....otherwise face what u already are doing at the moment.

maybe after what we have all seen in the last week or so regarding the shootings in USA schools, the yanky people might sit back and take a good long look at themselves and their value systems. I won't be holding my breath for a positive result though but I won't be surprised when I hear on the news something like....."yeah well, if the Amish had guns it would never have happened" and "god bless ameerriiccaa..."
enogh to make you puke (sorry)

blaarts
Mate, it would be good if it could happen, but there is noooooo way the Yanks would go for that. Charlton Heston and the NRA would be up in arms. The US say that it is their right to bear arms, hey that's their prerogative and sad to say that they are reaping the whirlwind on a daily basis.
Got to say though, not sure where you got your gun-crime figures from, there are way more than 5 per year in the UK, have you ever been to London, Manchester, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds or Birmingham? Still thankfully it's not as bad as the US.

its part of american culture unfortunatly.SURE BAN them;I BELIEVE THE gun industry would suffer,? so many states;so many laws

......................
I totally agree. We have strict gun control in Canada, yet it doesn't stop the killings, but they are reduced.
For the US to go this route I believe they would have to change their Constitution.

cheekyegg
im sick and tired of hearing about school shootings in america. You dont need guns.

It is a constitutional right to bear arms in the states but their legislation should realise that an amendment is due .
