I will respectfully state that the poster above me doesn't have the first clue as to what he is talking about. This entire tale is made up by your friend.

When a person is convicted of a felony crime, they are sent to prison. Certain crimes are allowed a parole hearing . What that means is they must serve a majority of their time in prison and then go before a parole board, who will evaluate his behavior while incarcerated. If they feel that he will abide by the law and rules imposed by the Adult Parole Authority, he will finish his sentence under strict supervison ( parole). NO PERSON IS ALLOWED OUT OF PRISON PENDING A PAROLE HEARING.

Several statements made by your friend totally conflict. A person is in jail pending trial or serving time for a misdemeanor. No one in jail can be brought up for a parole hearing. That is done solely for felons who are already in prison. If a person is in prison, he is NOT allowed outside the wire until his hearing is granted and a full background investigation is done on his sponsor and where he is going to be living. Period. If convicted felons came out for a heartbeat before parole was granted, they would disappear and just not return.

If he actually was in jail, I would suspect that he is out on bond pending pretrial or waiting for his trial date.

By the way, there actually is weekend sentences in some jurisdictions. A person may be sentenced to 20 days but the Judge allows it to be served from Friday night until Sunday night. I doubt this is what your friend is referring to however.

Overall, he is yanking your chain and trying to "brag" about being a tough criminal. It just failed.

He's out of jail temparily until the parole meeting.

After the parole meeting, he may be either placed in jail, house arrest, or even found to do community service for the charges.

Parole meetings happen between different parole officers and council to discuss the individual suspect of the charges and make a decision of how long and what the disposition will be set forth.

Temporary release means he is free until a certain date when all the above mentioned will occur.

Also, if your friend is a juvenile, he/she will be refered to juvenile court.
