I went to the Post Office and everyone got a 10.00 coupon in their box for a nice restaurant. People were just tossing them in the trash. After I got home and thought about it I came up with this plan. My friend drove my truck and I ran into the Post Office and took the trash bag out of the can , ran to my truck and we sped away. Do you think they got my License Number? Do you think I can get arrested for thieft? I just could'nt help myself, I really wanted those coupons because the restaurnat makes really good Philly Sandwiches and they cost 7.95 each. Do I need an Atty? Should I plead insanity? Any advice is appreciated.

haha you are hilarious. believe me nobody cares that some wacko ran in and stole the trash. nobody called the police believe me. if anyone noticed you then they just had a great laugh about it. |

I think the cops have bigger case to solve the trash thief. Don't worry, I didn't know anyone who was sent to jail for stealing trash. After all, when people toss something, they don't want in anymore. It should not even considered as theft.

Seeing as you were stealing from federal property, you have good reason to worry.
Don't screw around with Post Offices and mail and ATMs and that kind of thing. If you get busted for a federal crime, you will be going away for a while. |

-Even if you stole the can itself. I doubt anyone would raise a huge fuss. -Federal property or not as that sort of thing is a fine at best.There would be no need to plead insanity. Go get a cheese steak and laugh about it.

no, once the items were thrown away they were in the public domain. Theft = dishonestly appropriating property belonging to another with the intention to permantly deprive. |

nobody is going to do anything to you. however, the restaurant in question will probably stop you from using too many of those coupons. i would read the fine print. there are probably some restrictions there. |
