HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT Men AND Women IN Law ENFORCEMENT?

Why are people so negative towards men and women --- who are IN LAW ENFORCEMENT....?
Why -- because they are just human beings like you or me, the fact that they are called upon to deal with violent criminals and have to take lives and lose their lives to should make us care for them not be negative towards them or reject them, after all
apart from the fact that this man or women out there is in uniform --- they are just like you and I, in their private lives.......

They are just people ...just like everyone else! So you will find Good LEO's and Bad LEO's. And you will (if you have half a brain) know the difference, when dealing with them! Its just not fair to hate them all for the actions of a few! Kinda like... all over weight people are not lazy, all minorities are not thief's and all Catholic priest are not pedophiles....not all cops are bad!

I have great respect for them and realize they have a job where at just about any second their life could be in danger. I'm glad people are willing to do that job.

It's a stressful job that doesn't pay as well as it should. My hats off to anyone who works in law enforcement.

Because people are jealous that they can't measure up to them. I think for the most part it's that jealousy and the fact that police are thought of today as "bad" because of all the negative media coverage, and because with the younger people they all think it's cool to hate cops. I've always respected them, and they deserve even more respect because of all the disrespect they get from the people they're trying to keep safe.

My contact with police is limited since I never do any criminal activity.
I was always raised to respect the police and to go to them if ever in trouble.
I am 52 years old and the first time I needed their help was last summer on a hot dark night.
I was lost in las Vegas and my car was overheating. My sons Korean girlfriend and I were alone in a bad part of town. We pulled over to let the car cool before I could add any water to it. We saw 2 police crusiers across the street fromwhere we were parked and told them we were lost, car trouble and afraid. I asked them nicely if they wouldn't mind to keep an eye on us until we were able to move our car saftely. They told us ,"Yea it is a bad neighborhood, be careful." Then they drove away and left us sitting in the dark.
We sat in the car for about one hour with the windows rolled up and hammers in our hands for protection if anyone should assult us.
I was very disappointed with the police after that. I hope I never have to ask them for anything ever again.

I think it's one of the most honorable jobs out there. I respect and find their position honorable, as well as they have my sympathy for having to babysit adults who cannot resolve their own problems with one another.

I always see people here with negative attitudes, well I hate them because they busted me kinda thing. If you're not breaking laws, you wouldn't be crying here, would you? I got a few speeding tickets in my time, but that doesn't make me hate cops, I KNOW I DID SOMETHING WRONG< I OWN UP TO the bad things I did when I was in my Early 20's and was full of myself.

These guys only try to prevent accidents. The do risk their lives, especially in big cities like mine. I wish I could go up to every single one, bake them cookies, and give them a hug. I have called poice before, to report suspicios activity, and they have responded, and I am very thankful.

BTW.... where do single policemen hang out???

People that commit crimes are are caught with minor ordinace violations feel violated, even though they were breaking the law.

Instead of realizing the officers are just doing their job, they decide to attempt to berate them and make their lives miserable, which in turn leads to reponses from the police...its can end up being a big downward spiral.

The vast majority of the law-abiding public absolutely loves the police, and wishes there was more out there.

Boredatwork...your little story is a sad fabrication. Five officers with assault rifles surrounded your brother? That right there is false...no way officers with drawn firearms would surround anyone, due to fields of fire. Why would he yell at armed officers to identify themselves anyway? Your story makes absolutely no sense.

I think there are several reasons as to why people have a negative view of law enforcement. One is a lot of cops say that "in an emergency, you want us there", but for 90+ percent of the people in the US at least, the only time you deal with cops is when they pull you over for some traffic offense. No one likes those, so, people get pissed. The next thing is watching those "guardians of the law" break the same ones they bust you for, knowing that since they are cops, it'll slide. My brother in-law is a cop for some podunk force in PA, with about 6 or 7 officers. The worst, most dangerous thing he has ever been involved with is some vandalism calls. Mainly, he cruises around and busts people for rolling stop signs, sits on speed traps, whatever. If there is a real crime, they call the State Police or the county Sheriff's department. That doesn't stop him from carrying his gun and badge around off duty, flagrantly breaking the same laws that he busts people for every day (he goes 95mph on the highway, will go right through a red light if there is no one coming, ect), because he knows that when he gets pulled over, he just has to flash his little badge, and the cop busting him will leave him alone. I went to his place one 4th of July, and he set off illegal fireworks. Now I do the same thing, but I asked him why he did it, since half his force was out issuing citations to people they caught. He just laughed and said that, well, he was a cop, they wouldn't write him one, and his off duty buddies were there laughing along with him.

Don't get me wrong, he is a nice guy, but when he is playing "cop", he acts like a little tin god. He tends to spout off that "I'm out there, risking my life every day" stuff too. I went to Afghanistan and Iraq as a Marine. He once caught a couple of 14 year old smoking a joint behind the local park's baseball field's dugout. Maybe if he was a Los Angeles PD, or Philly PD, or something like that, I would be a litte more impressed.

I once got pulled over down in North Carolina, and the cop that did it was so overweight and out of shape, that he was breathing heavily when he got to my window. It was March, but by the time he had taken my license back to his car, written out the ticket, and walked back, he was sweating and red faced from the exercise. He wasn't the most impressive physical specimen I had ever seen.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN I HATE COPS! It can be a tough, thankless job, and a dangerous one too. I think cops like to over play it a little, just like some of the Admin guys I knew in the Corps would. But every cop I know is guilty of some petty crap, and I'm sure some of them are guilty of much bigger things, and they know that the badge protects them. And that pisses me off.

Wearing the "Peace Enforcement Uniform", totally respect them. They need to choose more wisely on who they hire to work in the office. You know those ladies sitting behind that protective glass. I went to the P. Station once about our car being abandoned and broken in to. A co-worker of my husband abandoned our car ( we let him use it while on vacation!), went down to fill in a report and that lady (idiot!) was trying to insinuate that my husband was dealing with drugs with that other guy! I got so mad I started talking (above normal tone) in anger to her. Well, she was lucky for that protective glass or I would have grabbed her right out of her seat and taken her outside. I am not a violate person (peace loving) but some people will just push that botton, you know what I mean. I took the report paper and told her, "Next time I come in here you better talk to me with respect, understand?" We are the victims, for goodness sakes.

Last year I was pulled-over and fined $60 for not wearing my seatbelt. Since then I've been firmly anti-authority. Man, woman, I don't care, I hate them both.

i hate cops and all of their self-delusional sanctimonious power trips. when i was 17 i was illegaly seized, searched and arrested...they got a way with it cause they lied on the police report. when i was 18 i saw 5 cops surround my brother with assualt rifles (laser sights on his chest), he threw his hands high in the air and said "please identify yourselves" then they tazed him with 300 thousand voltz, while on the ground he convulsed so bad that he swallowed dirt and began to choke, so he attempted to take the charges off, they interpreted that as resisting arrest and tazed him again, then they sat on him, cuffed him , hit his head against the car and had to drive him (unwillingly) to the hospital to get some medicine to restore his system to normal. None of these cops were charged. now tell me, WHERE IS THE JUSTICE IN THAT HUH? maybe there are good cops out there, but i have never met one
