Has a cop ever been this nice?

Last night I was clocked 58 in a 40. When the officer told me this I didn't disagree but i didn't think i was over 18 mph. He started talking to me and then told me if I took a field of sobriety test he wouldn't write me a ticket. I took it and passed of even though i did have a drink or 3 it was all good. He just wrote me a warning and left. Has a cop ever let you go 18 over?!?!? I'm still amazed i dont have a ticket today.

As an officer for over 30 years I can promise you this....you stand a MUCH better chance of driving away with a verbal or written warning IF:

1) you display the same amount of courtesy
2) give a LOGICAL reason for speeding...and if you just weren't paying attention....say that!
3) don't try to lie. The lies are way to obvious! I know every officer I've ever worked with could write a book just on "Baloney Excuses Used By Motorists";
4) don't argue and;
5) don't try to impress us with "I know so and so!"

We don't expect the public to "beg" for our forgiveness...that's not what the police are here for...we're here to protect ALL the public!

Most people who disagree with the speed we tell you that you were doing....aren't looking at their speedometers while they're speeding....they NORMALLY look at their speedometers after they've noticed the blue lights and have already taken their foot off the gas!

I'd MUCH prefer telling someone that they were speeding and I'm there to educate the motoring public in to driving with good skills versus bad skills.

You have to understand that we're human also. Some of us learn from good experiences as well as bad. Some of us learn from just plain ol' experience.

Here nor there...just because the officer appears to act "mean".. don't confuse someone acting mean versus being "stern" and "cautious."

Bottom line for our demeanor's are simply this....we don't know who we are pulling over or what they are capable of doing based upon their state of mind at the time of the stop. We are just trying to be prepared for the worst case!

Happy motoring!

I took three days off from work to finish remodelling my kitchen as that was the only way I could sell my house. I sent my wife to Home Depot for some materials and she got all the wrong stuff so I was hurrying back to exchange it when I was stopped at about 20 over. The Police Officer asked me why I was speeding and I explained it to him. He didn't say a word, just handed me back my stuff and told me I'd better get moving if I was going to get anything done.

Yes a few years ago I had to pull into a garage because my cars engine light kept coming on...just my luck the garage was closed and then it happend my car wouldn't start back up...it had gotten dark by this time and I ws stranded a bout 2 hours away from home; next thing I knew a police cruiser pulled in and I thought oh great theyr going to think I'm up to no good, the officer got out of his car and politely asked "are u having car trouble maam"?..."yeah my engine lighht came on and now it won't start" I replied...by this time his partner was getting out the crusier as well...oh no I thought...but he said "well lets see what we can do" He got into my car and tried to start the car...no luck...he said to me "maam have you got oil in your car"?...my face red I said " ahhhhh well Officer I wouldn't know cause I have never had to put oil in my car"...they both llooked at each other and laughed and then checked the oil stick ....dry ....the officer says "maam your out of oil now I don't see any smoke so lets hope you didn't burn up the engine".....next thing I know the officer s back in his car and within a few mins the garage owner showed up and brought out a couple cans of oil; the officer drained both cans into my car got in and away she went I couldn't believe it niether could he...both officers then showed me how to check all of my vehicles fluids and then gave me an emergency pack containing SOS flag, small handy first aid kit and flares. I said thank you and the officers said "glad to be of service mamm now don't let that oil get so low again"......thank goodness that they pulled over I'm surre the whole precinct had a good laugh over that one...lol

Be Honest
Count yourself lucky & bless that cop ! He has a heart & take it as a good lesson NOT to drink & drive.

ckm1956
There's something to be learned here.
#1) ALWAYS be nice when you're pulled over
#2) Don't drink & drive.

It's amazing that you didn't end up in jail! You gambled & you won this time. Next time you may not be so lucky. This kind of thing only happens once in a blue moon, so remember it & get your act together BEFORE you hit the road!

Contrary to the common belief that most cops are bad, I happened to be in a situation one late night where my girlfriend and I were out partying and got into an arguement, and upon coming to a stop sign she began to try and pound on me causeing me to swerve and hit a stop sign and a telephone pole. The cop saw everything and when She jumped out of the car and ran, naturally the cop came up to where I was and ask if I had been Drinking?. Of course I knew I couldn't lie because you could smell the alcohol on my breath. Anyway, since the damage was minor and the cop saw that I let her beat on me without hitting her back he decided He would give me a break and all he did was ask me " you think you can make it home ?". He then stated I'm going to make the block and see if I can find Her, and If your not here when I come back, Then I guess I won't have to write a report, Right!?. Needless to say I went directly HOME!. I mean I could Have gone to jail that night if this guy hadn't been in a good mood.

There's whole lot if real good cops out there. It's been my experience that they usually are discreet and employ a lot of common sense when dealing with the public.

I wont preach to you about having 3 drinks and then driving, Im sure you learned your lesson!

When I was 16, I rear-ended a car on a freeway offramp. I was really upset and crying, and of course the police came and they were really nice and talked to my parents (I called them and they came right down) and talked to the other driver, and wrote me a ticket for "following too closely" but made a note for the judge (here in Nevada, any time someone under 18 has a ticket they go to a traffic court judge) about how friendly, cooperative and responsible I acted. Well, the judge read it and, after talking a while to my mom and I decided I was a good kid, he sent me to traffic court (4 hours of somewhat entertaining car talk) and suspended my ticket until I was 18 (so I wouldnt have to pay it unless I got another ticket)
It was cool

Extremely lucky. You could have received more than a ticket dummy. You would have been locked up for drinking and driving or worse you could have killed yourself or worse someone else. You sound like it's humorous in your tone. I'd say you were extremely lucky you didn't end up with this on your record after being pulled over. Take a cab next time.

i duno how to answer that Q

Hm, I was clocked doing 70 in a 25 mph!!!!!!!!! Well, they pulled me over, dragged me and my boyfriend out of the car, searched the car, and let us go... But I HAVE A TRICK FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!! Look: if you already have tickets, SAVE them, do not throw them out. I have about 8 different tickets, and I carry them with me, as well as the printout from the DMV with all the court dates. When I get pulled over, I show them 1)license, insur and registration 2) tickets and DMV printouts with courts. They see that - they don't even need to run your license in the computer to see if its valid - they see you're responsible enough, plus they see you are already in trouble and they feel sorry - when they see my 8 court dates !!!!!!!! All they say is - slow down, have a nice day!
