I realize that many people assume that the reason Ted Bundy began murdering people was because he 'snapped'. Has anyone ever been courious as to whether he was treated better than his sister (mother) and possibly even his mother (grandmother)? It is apparent that his father has issues with women since he raped his daughter and took his wife to so many mental institutions. If he was treated differently, would that be a contributing factor to the way he thought of women as objects (toys)? Everyone assumes that he acted a particular way because of a traumatic childhood. Is it possible that as opposed to being traumatic, he was actually treated better than the other members in the family?
Additional Details
I do not believe that people are born evil. They act a particular way because that is how they have been socialized to behave.

Bundy was so screwed up, that he will be studied 100 years from now. I did a paper on him a long time ago, but not on those aspects. Some people are just born evil. IMHO, he was one of those. |

Good point but in the end - does it really matter? He killed women for whatever reason his nutbag mind said to do it. He was still in control of himself at all times and in court showed to be a highly intelligent, rational person. I got bit by a dog when I was 10 - I don't hate dogs for it. |

I agree--some are just born mentally defective with no hope of redemption. Much as a rabid dog has to be put down for the good of the community, no matter how much you may love dogs. |

The reasons serial killers are the way they are is because of either childhood trauma, genetics, or a dangerous combination of both.
It's possible that psychosis ran in his family... if he showed symptoms and they were recongnized, he should have been treated. But the family issues only exasperated (sp?) the problem.
I thought that they didn't know who his biological father was? Or maybe that's someone else?
Anyways, you don't necessarily need childhood trauma to f*ck you up mentally. |
