Has anyone had to deal with neighbours children playing hockey in the middle of the road and constantly hittin?

Their hockey games in the road, have led to my cars being hit constantly. I have spoken with the children and the caregivers numerous times, and now have had enough. Has anyone encountered this, and what have you done, because I don't know what to do anymore except report it, since my car is being hit all the time and I witness it happeing many times. Let me know if there are any laws or restirctions here in Ontario Canada.

Thanks for the response. This has acutally been going on for a few years now. I have spoken the the children and their parents many times. I recently told the one parent, why don't you take them to the park that is right near our houses, or the leisure complex instead of the road. These kids block the road all the time and and the worst times of the day. Nobody seems to listen, they think its actually ok to him someones car-EVEN THE PARENTS ARE DEFENDING it. on top of the that the intersection nearby is dangerous, there have been numerous car crashes there, and it is also a question of safety. I have spoken nicely sooooo many times, and have now had enough that I start to raise my voice because Im not being listened to-and then I get called a psycho for doing that by a parent!

Dealing with neighbours is difficult. No matter what the problem is.My advice is to get an estimate as to the costs re your cars and speak directly to the parents of these children causing the damage and make it clear to them that you intend to sue for damages. When money is involved people take notice. But, now listen to me, neighbours can be very difficult, to put it mildly, and the people you think you know may turn out to be very different.Their children are their world and they will excuse them no matter what. Depending on your assesment of these people, and people differ, weigh up the consequences and there can be many, such as character assassasintion, further damage to your property etc, and then make your move. You cannot tolerate willfull damage to your cars but proceed carefully.

There is likely nothing you can do if your car is being parked on the road anyway. They have as much right to use the street as you do. If its a huge deal, park your car elsewhere.

Otherwise, maybe your insurance will cover it but in the end it seems to be accidental and you can't force them to pay. If they were negligent in some way perhaps but they weren't.

If the car is on your property, that might be entirely different.

I was one of those kids too! We'd play street hockey with a tennis ball. Occasionally the ball would hit a parked car, but no big deal. It never left any damage.

Unless cars or property are actually being damaged then I'd say BFD. Perhaps these kids have been kicked out of the park already.

You're in Canada. Isn't hockey a childhood ritual there? I would have figured that every neighborhood has kids playing street hockey, and homeowners simply take it in stride.

What do you mean by "hitting"?

If they are damaging your car, then calmly but firmly tell their parents that they will be responsible for the costs and ask for their insurance information. That should send the message.

If they are not damaging your car in any way, then I don't see what your problem is. They have every right to use the street (at their own risk).

I used to be one of those kids! We used to have to go into people's yards to fetch the ball, and we ended up hating the one grumpy lady who would yell at us for going in her yard.

Hitting the car is another thing. Is there anywhere else nearby you could park the car so that it won't get hit? Those kids are young and disrespectful (I was too!) so you might not be able to actually depend on them to not hit the car. It happens when you're playing hockey.

Another option is to gently suggest another location, if there is one. Keep in mind they will think they are already at the best spot to play, so you'll probably have to be very convincing!

Call your insurance company for coverage on vehicle.
Call police as most laws say that playing in the street is illegal. (Street is for traffic not playing, why we build nice parks and recreation grounds to play at)
