Has the world gone mad!!?

prisoners getting an out of court settlement by the home office because thier incarceration in our prison system made them go cold turkey? boo bloody hoo do you agree with me and they should have been told to shut up and get on with it!!

crazymental
yes they should of been told to shut up. the point is drugs are illegal anyway and they shouldnt of been using. they home office actually did them a bloody favour by making em go cold turkey! they should be paying the home office rehab fees!

I can't help but feel that if these people are feeling off colour as the result of ceasing to take illegal drugs, then the issue is surely one between them and the people who sold it to them - perhaps we are infringing their human rights by holding them in prison so they cant take the matter up directly with them?

I am feeling more and more like the worst thing you can do in the UK is get educated, work and try to make something of yourself - you are contantly punished for it, while the people that have made a hash up of their lives seem to get rewarded.

Pass me the needle and the lighter.

the world or at least the world that governs us has gone truly and utterly mad... the same world that allows paedophiles to live where they want even if its next to schools and parks and wont inform local families to protect their 'rights' .....all too depressing for words...

fatboyslick
totally agree, this country is FAR too soft

My human rights were violated the minute my tax went to a number of criminals as a settlement for being made to go cold turkey... is it possible to sue the government for misuse of my tax?

Totally agree, they violated someone's human rights to be in jail in the first place, did their victims receive any compensation from them, I don't think so. If you do the crime, then you should do the time, if that includes cold turkey, look at as a bonus to get off drugs not a violation

totally. there are some ridiculous laws around now too.

The prisons in this country are WAY too much like country clubs. Weight rooms - libraries - basketball courts - the chance to learn a trade. Prisoners should be left in a cell - and eat bland food. Once a day they should get to walk or run around a track. That's it. If they want to learn to read and write - that would maybe be okay. Other than that - prison should be a HORRIBLE place to go. And there should be absolutely no smoking allowed there. And - if you have to go cold turkey - too bad. Maybe then - our prisons won't be so crowded!!

UK law gone mad again...... I totally agree with you on this one

I cannot believe what's going on! It's all back-to-front!

There is no common sense any more - If the law states a person should be sent to prison, they should do the time and deal with the consequences of being locked up! If that means going cold-turkey then tough!

In my opinion, drugs should be freely available to any fool who wants them, on the sole condition that if they suffer from o/d, death or similar, they get NO HELP from NHS, drug agencies, or the State in any shape or form.
It would be one way of reducing the prison population at a stroke

i think we should look at the human rights bill more closely..i could not believe it when i heard this on sky news. i thought thats what prison was for. they should have been flogged !!!

Unfortunately our society seems to be more interested in protecting and preserving the human rights of criminals rather than law abiding citizens.

How many times do we see stories about the crap the criminals are getting away with while "Joe Average" suffers?

However I don't think it's going to change any time soon.

The system is crackers! They should be left to go cold turkey ,they weren't forced to take drugs in the first place were they?

The law is the law, this needs to be upheld in ALL cases.

Therefore if they havent been given the correct medical treatment then they should be compensated to some degree as this was caused by an illegal action by the Home Offfice.

Its just one of those things that sounds bad, the fact is that the most effective way to get people off herion and stay off it for life is to use the methodone substitute method over a period of time, then that person can return to a normal life and lead it and maybe become a benefit to our society.

There are far worse people out there not on drugs and not in jail, how about the local shopkeeper who keeps selling alcohol to a man she clearly knows is an alcoholic, is that not immoral? Yet not illegal.

?
they should be supplied with drugs in prison....enough to kill them

Should be made to do hard labour.

Yes, I believe it has.

Mr Cynical
this is why i left the prison service, they put the prisoners human rights before the victims and entertain these law suits

That is pathetic, Surely that is inciting more people to turn to drugs because at the end of the day you will get a cash handout for doing it.... The government has ruined this country, run it into the ground, the further in we go the harder it will be to get out. The sooner Labour gets kicked out of power the better, also The human rights law is total stupidity, not only with the drug takers but murderers/rapists, the do-gooders say they cannot be imprisoned for it breaches their human rights... what about the murderes/rapists victims??? do they not have human rights too?
European and labour laws will be the death of this once pleasant country.

Thats just an excuse as drugs are very easy to get hold of inside, its more like the prisons are too full so they think a drug addict is less risk than other prisoners if you put em back on the streets. If you take away the addiction then you should take away the crime only problem is a lot of drug addicts have become addicted to crime.

monkeyface
It is high time that prisoners realised that they are in prison not on holiday.
If they hadn't committed a crime, they would still be on the outside frying their brains with as much drugs as it takes to make their heads explode. If you are not prepred to accept the punishment, without special treatment because of your drug problem, then don't do the crime.

It is quite obvious to any rational person that in the U.K. the lunatics are now running the asylum ! Welcome to Anthony Bliars world of Human Rights.
