YES, they gave that up as soon as they became cops |

You try attending an RTC involving people injured and screaming in the middle of the road where noone has stopped because it isn't their problem.
You try forcing entry to a flat where you know the occupier is probably lying in a pool of his own vomit after an epileptic fit sent him into a coma 5 days ago.
You try approaching a group of 15 teenagers, one of whom is wanted for an assault and arresting him.
You try explaining to the children of an 80 year old pensioner that you'll do your best to find and apprehend the person who just robbed her.
You try comforting a rape victim
e.t.c. e.t.c. e.t.c.
Or you could try keeping your mouth shut about a world that you know nothing about apart from what you see on the Bill or at the end of a pub fight. |

Is this an actual question?
Policing is tough, serious business.
It attracts good people and bad. Lumping all Police Officers in the same boat is as unfair as dishonest officers practicing racial profiling.
If someone attacked you on the street, or broke into your car, who would you call? |

No. They are just doing the job that they're paid for, and most of them are very good at it. It's not an easy profession and they are bound to get lots of stick from all corners. Also, what would we do without them? |

It is not the police that are the problem, it is the bloody government who set stupid rules that they have to follow. As I have said many times it is the criminals that have all the rights in this country. The police are as helpless as we, as there hands are tied. How can they do any thing when the crown prosecution through out cases. |

It is not only the British police you need refer to. I would say western law enforcement. If they were feelers, they would have become psychologists instead.
We need cops for the general safety of our society. I don't like them, but I need them the way everyone does. They protect us from our own carelessness and stupidity.
I would also like to add: behind every bad guy is a bad parent or guardian. I think most cops would agree. |

The Police force used to be the Bobby on the street, serving the community. Back then they were Human Beings.
Under Blair, they have turned into State enforcers serving a failed governments limit on the freedom we once had. That's why you need to apply for a permit to protest in London and can't use free speech near Parliament.
So yes - they have lost the right to be called Human Beings. |

its always very easy to critise when you have no real knowledge of what a police officer has to do ...why not join the police force and i would guarantee that you would change your opinion in a week !!
Most peoples perceptions are only what they see from the televsion or newspapers .......have you had to tell a loved one that their child has died in a car crash ? ...have you had to go in to a nightclub full of people fighting ...have you ever put your life in danger to save someone ...........NO ? I thought not ...... |

We would be so much worse off without them. You get good and bad people and the police force is made up of people like you and I. They have to deal with violent crime, and murder, theft , road traffic accidents, mugging, etc, etc, Most people would not want to do their job but too many are quick to condemn them. |

No. They have a job to do like everyone else if they weren't there then the world would be in mayhem. What are you saying that they should be replaced with robots. |

Caught doing something you shouldnt have???
the police are human beings doing a difficult job in a mountain of government required paperwork and surrounded by time wasters and people who just want extra drama in their lives.
If you are a genuine victim of crime who has been sat around waiting for a response then I feel sorry for you but please don't blame the poor officers who are probably tied up investigating 2 chavs who are just trying to score points against each other.
If you have got on the wrong side of them, then more fool you. don't do it again. |

No there are some sterling Police officers it's the corrupt ones who are the problem. People have had horrific deaths whilst in custody, some "customers" as they are now called suffer horrific injuries because they"fell" whilst being transported to the Police station, other officers are too frightened of reprisals to complain so everyone involved close ranks, an ex-police officer had a site on the web telling of his experiences working in a corrupt force but the police got it taken off the web. This corruption will never change in the English police force until the professional police officers get sick of being called corrupt and start blowing the whistle on their colleagues. |

No. Because of one or two mistake - one with the brazilian - the whole police should not be demonized. Here in Brazil, we understood when we were told the dead kid acted guiltly. But when we realized the poor guy was murdered we got upset.
We understan you're afraid of terrorism, and we'll accept errors in preventig it, but honesty will always be necessary, as well human rights. |
