It is a true tragedy what just happened to the Oakland CA Police Officers. (3 dead, I critical). When they found the suspect hiding in a building, he was shot and killed.
When I was a police officer, it was almost an understanding that NO suspect who killed a cop would be captured ALIVE. That is why some "cop-killers" today, who are on the run, call the MEDIA first before surrendering themselves. They know if they call the Police, it's the same as suicide.
Of course, this is not in all cases; but, it is in a majority of them.
And, yes, I know he shot at the officers again in this situation and deserved to be stopped!
Additional Details
once again: I know some suspects do get captured alive, if they surrender. But then, they still have to go to PRISON and deal with the "prison guards".

The guy was a chicken %#$^. Why couldn't he just have killed himself and not taken someones dad, brother, son, or husband. I am having a really hard time trying not to hate, I have family in law enforcement and I never want to go through what their families are dealing with today.My prayers go to their families and to the families of the COWARD! He took the easy way out as most cowards do , its to bad he wasn't taken "alive". |

Kind of hard to handcuff someone who is shooting at you.
Personally I have zero sympathy for a killer having to face prison. Your implication that the guards treat a cop killer any differently then any other murderer is way off base. As far as the guards are concerned the prisoners are all equally scum. |

If you were a police officer then you would know that there are hundreds if not thousands of cop killers alive and well in prisons throughout the US. Statistically speaking only a small percentage of cop killers end up dead at the hands of police. Those that end up dead either committ suicide because they are cowards or they decide to go out in a blaze of glory. You make it sound like the police will do anything legal or not to make sure the guy never sees prison. That is NOT the case most of the time.
I don't believe any cop killer is worried about the prison guards. C.O.s have a job to do and they usually do it well. Unfortunately, those that kill cops become instant heros to the criminals locked up.
Edit: No, but you certainly implied that it happens most of the time which as I stated is not the case. |
