I know that they aren't really considered firefighters until they go through the academy, but they are trainees and do almost what real firefighters do.
Additional Details
I have happen to notice that this question is under law enforcement/ police, for some reason that's all the listings would provide me with, and it's the closest thing I could get to firefighting.

A "firefighter down" or "mayday" call is initiated to bring in emergency assistance for a member of the fire crew that has become trapped, injured, unconscious, lost, or out of air while on an incident.
When a normal "victim" is found, the fire crew (working in at least pairs) is normally able to remove the victim. If specific assistance is required, they can ask for it.
A "firefighter down" call is different for many reasons. These may include:
-May require different resources (entrapment, air)
-May physically overwhelm the partner's ability to help
-May mentally confuse the partner
-Etc.
So the response includes a different level of resources and command management to ensure it is dealt with properly.
For those reasons, if an explorer is working on an apparatus as part of the crew, they ABSOLUTELY would be treated as a 'firefighter down' situation if something happened. |
