Yes ,Policemen are at very low salary but they are earning more than a middle class employee by other ways.
They are getting free houses etc. They must be given all facilities as per law.
There must be courses for tension free life for police.Laughing clubs for police will be a good effort in this direction. |

A reasonable salary (i.e livable) is the first step to battling corruption. This is already in place in all developed countries. |

Yes sufficient salary, family perks and safety must be ensured as dealing with criminals is not easy task.
Having done above answer-ability must as well be raised and strict actions taken for corruption or derailing investigations. |

Acceptance of money is not the only mode of corruption. Infact, corruption has much wider definition. High salary may be one of the solutions. |

Corruption starts from higher up in the ladder.Nowadays ,politicians play dirty games and favour some and some are punished for not toeing their lines, with the result favoured ones do well and out of favour are suffering.
Now if salaries are increased it will curb corruption but will the favoured ones give up their slices of cake? No.Actually ,the ones who are at the bottom i.e. the constables are the ones who are really in a pitiable conditions.Their salaries should be hiked and offer incentives to them for good work to reduce corruption. These people are poorly paid and with long ,strenuous hours of work and in return no appreciation or rewards.Hence the "HAPTA".
Higher salaries and better facilities will reduce the corruption if not exactly wipe it off. |

No. The salary structure and perks of police personnel are comparable to any other salaried employees in India. The benefits enjoyed by them and other similar government staff are rather high.
Their working conditions are of course tough but in comparison with other armed forces their conditions are again far better.
The reasons for corruption in police department are many
1.They are vested with more powers(given by law and taken on their own) with out proper accountability.
2.They serve the ruling parties rather than public.
3.Corruption seeps from top to bottom ,and so top is not able to control sub ordinates.
4.Every policeman, and every junior officer is bribery collection agent to seniors. They have to collect and submit certain fixed amount on time bound basis. Over and above they have to collect to the ruling party also.
So, for these people salary is only a "pocket money". |

Money won't solve a corrupt heart. The person has to want to be honest and have character and integrity or they are no better than those they arrest. |

Yes I think it will erradicate corruption a lot.. they won't be so tempted by the ¨extra cash¨ cuz already can afford their need and luxuries |

Arrrrgh!
One thing I have learned in my time on the sea is that some sailors be good and some be bad. No matter how many lashings ye give 'em as punishment nor how many pieces of eight ye reward them with, they are who they are.
I don't be thinkin' the shorewatch or local magistrates be any different than the rest of the men on terra firma.
Don't ye forget that thar be a nationwide shortage of police officers and that has driven up their wages. With overtime, most of the officers I know live a comfortable middle-class lifestyle. |
