It sounds like the police amy be regarding the incident as a mutual affray instead of a simple attack.
Just because they may have thrown the first punch does not mean that you had reasonable options to protect yourself that did not involve swinging back. |

Don't make any kind of statement when you're under arrest without a lawyer present. You have to protect your rights. |

If you're innocent, relax. Just say or write exactly what happened.
It could be that being in custody will protect you. If they took your statement on the spot, you might be intimidated by assailants that were still around. Also, if they left you, perhaps one of the non-accused would try to take revenge. |

If you are under arrest, then you are being charged with a crime. Demand a lawyer. Immediately.
If you are not under arrest, then you are free to go where you please when you please. You may walk out of the police station at will. |

Keep your mouth shut and say nothing. If you are being arrested you are definitely skating on thin ice. They can't hold you more than 72 hours without charging you with a crime. It doesn't sound like you know enough about the system to be able to protect yourself in this situation so just keep your mouth shut and use your one phone call to call someone who has the knowledge to get you through this.
How are you using a computer in jail? |

Hey, Stay cool. Don't worry just see how it goes and be carefull when you speak and be sure the statement is a record of events that can be stuck to. It's normal if you didn't want to give a statement before or the people who attacked you are claiming you attacked them as a defence. Good luck, it's a learning curve, life has many. |

hmmm... it all depends if you "defended" yourself. Did you hit back? if the answer is yes and you kicked your attackers @ss then they will arrest all of you for battery and assault until the police can determine who attacked who first.
My suggestion is...when they allow your phone call...contact a lawyer...or contact someone you can trust to get you a lawyer ASAP. |

If you have been attacked and have reported the incident then yes you will as a matter of procedure be asked to make a formal statement in relation to the assault, i am confused as to why 1. you would be under suspicion and 2. why you have been arrested unless there is another party who has also made a complaint against you relating to the incident. When you say that "he said that's how they do things" i presume you mean the police then i can assure you that the police do not arrest someone who has made a complaint regarding an assault on themselves unless like i have said someone has reported you.
Try to explain the situation a bit clearer as your question is confusing. If you are arrested it follows that you to an extent are under suspicion of an alleged crime |

ask if you are being arrested or detained. If you are being arrested tell them you want a lawyer. If during this attack you did more damage to them(the attacker) than they did you. Go in with a lawyer. Which means go see a lawyer first and have him go in with you.
it sounds like they are trying to get you to turn yourself in. They are allowed to lie to you to get you in
with the details you gave I would go in with my lawyer present |
