I got pulled over this morning doing 80 in a 90. Firstly, i KNOW i was not going 80 because i had my cruise set at 75 mph. Regardless, i was pulled over in a "construction zone", though it was not clearly marked. There was a construction zone a few miles back, with orange signs and "55 mph" signs everywhere. After all orange cones dissppeared, and the speed limit went back to 70, i assumed to Construction Zone was over.
The fine is $500, and I am a college student. Does anyone know how often judges will either a) lower the fine, or b) set up a payment plan?
I am in Texas by the way. Thanks so much for any insight you can offer.

the best way is to get a lawyer some have like 90% success rates to get them dismissed, 2nd is to go to trail and hope that the officer doesnt show up.
500 dllr tickets here in california usally end up to be about 1000-1500 dllr fines depending and what county you get it in. cuz of the tax you have to pay, they always let you have a payment plan or do community service or both. good luck |

I think you need to demand a traffic engineering study. The manual for the radar used. The certificate of calibration for the radar. The height of the speed limit sign. If your going to a small court be prepared to appeal cause your going to lose. You can always remand to a higher court or just appeal de novo. I'm not up with Texas law as I live here in New Mexico but you didn't really break a law cause there ain't a victim. They just want to collect revenue from you and sense they get a kickback from insurance they will collect even more with that. Your a victim of extortion. Welcome to America |

For future reference, WHILE you are being pulled over, ask the officer to show you papers when the last time their speed meter/radar in their car was inspected. Usually they don't get them inspected often, so you can bring those papers to court and claim that their radar is not accurate.
You can ask for those papers in court as well I think, but I'm not sure if the officer will be present in court to make that happen. |
