I am thinking about becoming a criminal prosecutor and just wonder how much of a difference they have made in your experience if you have any.

Do you think prosecutors get as much of a sense of justice as law enforcement officers?

Most of the prosecutors I know are hard working dedicated people. What becomes an irritation is when you have a County Prosecutor that is elected who wants to be re-elected. They always, and I mean always, run out their conviction statistics.
Nobody should ever believe that a County Prosecutor is doing a good job if they have a near perfect conviction rate. All it really means is that they don't take the hard to win cases, whether win-able or not, to trial and they must be doing a lot of plea bargaining.
Of course I believe that the prosecutor should always win a trial, otherwise the police would have to be bringing in way too many innocent people. But the propensity some prosecuting offices have for plea bargains is way out of control.
Do they get a sense of justice. No, this is evidenced by the tendancy for plea bargains. The victims are victimized again by not having their victimizers punished by the statutorily prescribed punishment.
Prosecutors are usually not at a crime scene dealing with the victims just after they were victimized. Nothing can impact you more than seeing someone's world being turned upside down and the emotional impact it can have. The prosecutors don't see this, so no, they don't get the sense of justice the police do. |

Police/ Detectives collect the evidence for "you" the lawyer to make a conviction. Of course lawyers are important to Law Enforcement.... Why would we try and enforce the laws if their was no one to inflict the punishments?! |
