How can I get rid of a stalker?

Six days ago a young women(about 28 I think)asked if she could share the table at our local coffee shop I said certainly. While chatting she brought up politics and asked what i thought of the candidates I said i was not too happy with them but would probably vote for McCain /Palin. This women went ballistic said all of us republicans were blinkity blank stupid idiots so on so forth I told I had been a democrat for 40 yrs and to please leave our table which she did. Now every time I go anywhere in town(its small)she comes up beside me and starts talking to imaginary beings and includes me in their conversations. yesterday she came up behind me and whispered something I could not make out. it is obvious she is mentally ill. I walk my dog every day and have changed the time we walk but she still follows me. I have never said anything mean to her. She did apologize once but obviously didn't mean it. I did tell her it was ok. Is there any thing I can do?

Document, document, document. Create a paper trail.

Try creating a poster of a controversial issue. and late at night put it up. I say this to give you an idea to divert or distract her to another issue. She needs a target. Can you change her target to? a government office, police station, etc... somewhere that has the ability to deal with her issue.

Have a friend that lives out of the ares strike up a conversation about politics, Whatever. She will be focusing on your friend now. I would do this with complete respect and courtesy. Hope it helps

lets face it how many story's you herd of a restraining order working?(maybe once she has hurt you)
it will just piss her off more, if your going to piss her off anyway get someone to follow you and watch out for her then they can approach her and act like a crazy jealous lover, nothing scares crazy people off faster then people crazier then them ;-)

She does not seem to pose any physical danger to you and did leave the coffee shop table when asked.
Maybe a polite request to leave you alone when walking the dog would work as well?

It think she is probably a lonely lady looking for company, I think its kinds st*pid to fight over politics. They are all liers what the difference! lol. If you wanna get rid of her I say just ignore her she will eventually get bored and leave you alone. She is no real threat to you so I dont think police will take it to seriously.

Deal with it, file a report with the police who will then contact her, or file a restraining order. The choice you make is obviously dependent upon how much it bothers you or if you think you are in danger.
