You can call your local police or sheriff's department and ask if you can go on a ride along. You will have to go in and sign a waiver form and fill out some paperwork, and then they will send you out to ride with an officer/deputy for a few hours or so. |

My father got to do that as part of the Neighborhood Watch. The police trained him and a couple of other neighbors by taking him on rounds one Friday night.
If you want to do it, call the police and ask if they have police volunteers. |

You can contact them and ask pretty much. Its a career learning type thing that lots of PDs offer which is pretty much a ride along for a day to see what its like. |

If you are a kid your parents can ask to let you see the inside and maybe they will let you play with the sirens. |

usually when they pick you up, even for non-bad things...like if you need a ride or something, they still make you sit in the back. |

The person could know the police officer. Also, the police officer could be giving the person a ride home or a ride to the police station (if theyre not in trouble) |

You're able to tag along for a "joy" ride if you ask but you have to be respectable. Also, many people get to go to and from the bank in a police cruiser if they have a large enough transaction. |

I did that before when I was like an hour late walking to school with my sister and the police asked if we wanted a ride. I sat in the front and my sister in the back. This was like 16 years ago so maybe they don't do that now. |

You can't - unless you know a cop who is willing to let you sit there. But if the cop is on duty, civvies are not allowed in. |

maybe they called the cops to take them home so they wouldn't drive drunk and that is responsible |

if that is what you think you may want to do for a carrier, then call and ask to speak to a supervisor. tell him you are thinking about getting into law enforcement and you would like to do a ride along. |
