How can cops take excess drugs and keep them?

A pound of weed is quite large. I doubt someone would be dumb enough to bring that to school. Even if they did an officer could not "pocket" it to steal. It would require rather large pockets.

I don't buy this story. I think what really happened is an officer took the marijuana for evidence and the story got passed around as something different.

she's lucky that's all she got charged with, as for the rest, if they don't report confiscating that much, then they are crooked cops making money on the side for themselves.

With a pound the police are supposed to arrest her as a dealer. The cop was doing her a favor by just giving her a ticket for less than an ounce. Most likely he turned in all of at the station where it was destroyed: Standard practice. If she wants to face criminal charges as a dealer, she can protest.

If she couldn't prove they just pocketed it, how do you know it happened? Because she said so? And she would NEVER lie?

Not being a cop, I don't know the particulars of what constitutes intent to distribute, but a brick goes for around $600, so a pound would be worth about $300. That's a lot of weed. The bust would be worth a LOT more in commendations than casually passing around some 300 joints on the sly.

The psychological profile of cops is almost exactly the same as the criminals. Around here they often beat the crap out of taggers rather than arresting them. That's fine by me because the taggers are usually gang members and they respect violence more than authority or the threat of imprisonment. Have you ever seen the movie "Training Day?" Cops have a lot of opportunity to take advantage of their position and many of them do it. Why do you think the cops in the USA are more ethical than cops in other parts of the world? There are bad cops everywhere and there are good cops everywhere. The USA has more corruption than many other parts of this world.

This is not the first time this has happened, and won't be the last, cops can do this, because they knows you're not going
to tell on them, under an ounce, that's to keep your mouth shut.... cope does it all over the world, I'm sure....
