Some high crime areas have two officers in a car for safety reasons. Many departments, though, feel it's more cost effective to have one officer per car, to cover more area. |

It depends on what state, department, city, and county. The officer or deputy could be training. Although its up to the supervisors, I would prefer it be up to the officer. I have heard so many stories where things could have been avoided if only there had been a partner. I have much respect for these men and women who serve the public because of their bravery and courage. |

Here, all of the cars are one person patrols. There are a few execptions. Usually the downtown areas (where all the bars are) are a two man unit. When someone new is hired, they are put with a training officer for 6 months. There is also times when cadets come out for the on the job training, they are also put with an officer. Sometimes, officers will get in the same car if they are leaving the office, heading to a call they are both required for. |
