Its a good question. And my answer would be, because the morotcyclists have the choice to wear helmets. However, helmets have been knows to help as well as kill people depending on the type of crash. Seatbelts, there are more cases that people have died from not wearing their seatbelt then people wearing it. It similar to all terrain vehicles and snow mobiles. noone has to wear a helmet nor are their any seatbelts on these machines.
Look at mountain biking and skiing, helmets optional. Seat belts not an option.. |

Because seatbelts save lives.
If a motorcycle gets in an accident, a seatbelt would cause more harm than good- the motorcyclist would be scraped along under his bike.
How did it happen that it became a LAW to wear your helmet when we have people riding in CARS without helmets!!!!? |

That's like saying we shouldn't be wearing seat belts when there are people dying from other ways (e.g. smoking, heart attack ) |

Insurance companies get higher premiums out of live people. |

i would personally rather wear the seat belt than be thrown violently through a windshield and have my brains splattered on the road. and as for the motorcycles, i'd rather be thrown off the motorcycle than be strapped to it and be under it. but if you don't feel that you need to wear a seatbelt, go right ahead. |

It's apples and oranges. There are more head injuries in auto crashes than motorcycle crashes so along with your seatbelt you should also be required to wear a helmet too. |

even though you'd be a dead duck with a seat belt on when hit broadside, it's still best to wear it. |

Do you a helmet in your car?
Okay. Then stop complaining, you'll be happy when you survive.
Or if you're bitter about it you can go to Mexico and joyride without a seatbelt.
LOL
It is a good point I guess, motorcycles don't make sense either, they're actually super dangerous. |

Let me guess...you got pulled over and/or a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. Simply, seatbelts save lives. This is an undisputed fact.
People who don't wear helmets on a motorcycle are doing the rest of us a favor...they are called 'donor-cycles' for a reason. Should they be required to wear helmets? Probably, and they are in some places. However, the number of motorcycles on the road is far outweighed by the number of cars. Having a law that benefits the most people simply makes sense. Besides, municipalities will make more money giving out tickets for something that affects cars than something that affects motorcycles. |

These are all oppressive laws made by 'Big Brother' governments, they couldn't care less about your health or safety, these things should all be optional free to chose, and if you were living as a free agent, (which we should all be) under common law, then our governments could not put such demands upon us, but as we have contracted into the controlled system we fall under the laws of corporation, and have to do as we are told, unless we contract out. |
