What is going on with the police? They attack several protestors, possibly leading to one death, and now use a battering ram to take an 86 yr old woman back to a "care home"?

Hi there
The local authority had undertaken an assessment which ascertained the level of care this lady needed. Their view was that the daughter could not provide that level of care hence the lady had to be returned to the care home.
What is disgusting in this case was the confrontational approach used by the powers that be. Did she have no-one at the care home who was familiar with her to persuade her to return.
Could not the local authority negotiate with the daughter so they could both contribute to a care package with the lady spending some time with her daughter.
Another worrying aspect is the fact that the lady is paying for her care. Could finances have a bearing on the daughter's actions here.
No-one comes out of this with any dignity and how scary for the old lady in the middle of the crisis.
Best wishes from Sue. |

The police in uk are all psyched up worked on like robots and are instilled with fear "attack" syndrome. Theyre a joke. |

Totally disgusting although the police didn't actually use the battering ram as you call it. As Mrs Figg wasn't sectioned and as far as I know no Court Order was in place to keep her in the Council home then they had no legal right to remove her from her Daughter's home. |

Business as usual. Their logic is: "The safety of the woman was of paramount importance, even if we had to smash her door down & bash her head in to save her". |

I was disgusted when i read it in the paper. Have the police got nothing better to do? The woman was obviously much better off being cared for by her daughter in a home environment. |

Our tax dollars at work.
Drug dealers, serial killers, and polygamists are running wild and free, while the police are bashing down an 86 year old woman's door! |

I actually had to look this up being from Canada. Remember you get the government you vote for, in turn you get the social policies in turn. With the police enforcing them.
If you don't like the police enforcing those law(s), then you need to vote out those at the social level(government) and enact change to make sure that things like this don't happen. On top of that, if you're outraged over what happened you need to contact your I believe MP, and raise whatever outcry you can over it.
The real questions become 'was it right, and could she look after her', if the answer is yes. Then social services not only broadly overstepped their bounds, and violated a persons right to care in the hands of loved ones at the end of their life. |

I suggest you read it again, the police didnt use an enforcer, just took it along as the local council had a warrant to remove the person from the house. The police were there to gain entry nothing more, it also wasnt her home it was her daughters. |

We should all pitch in and buy a bunch of Nazi SS pins for these kinds of pigs. I apologize in advance to the small percentage of good officers. |

There is something really wrong. Do you get the feeling that something is NOT RIGHT about this country when they do things like this and they report it on the news as if it is justified?
Nanny state. Big brother - who will they take away next? The depressive who refuses to take her meds? |

No I wouldn't say the action was disgusting. It could be that the local council are in possession of more info than has been reported in relation to the level of care being given to Betty by her daughter.
The woman was removed from her care home against advice. It was deemed that the family were in no way able to care for Betty and as such the authorities obtained a warrant in order that Betty be returned to the care home.
The authorities were acting in the best interests of Betty.
What would have happened if Betty had died whilst at home? Would the authorities have been accused of neglecting her.
The police were merely present to make sure that there was no breach of the peace. Likewise the presence of door opening equipment was alast resort should entry be refused. If you read the article it wasn't used.
The authorities did cover Betty with a blanket to protect her identity, although later admitted this was a mistake.
