Have the court set the matter for trial. If the citing officer does not show up then you will have successfully beaten your seat-belt ticket. If the citing officer does show up then you will have to pay $80. I do not wear seat-belts nor has any helmet ever prevented a collision from happening to me. Write your legislator or fire them at the next election.

You "fight" a ticket by proving you did not commit the offense. I don't see how you can beat this one. |

The only way you can 'fight' it is if you did not commit the offense in question. And since you openly admit to not wearing your seat belt, you lose.
Next time you get into a slow speed collision, you will be glad you wore it. |

It is illegal because the state is attempting to "train" society to wear thier seatbelts. An increase in seatbelt usage results in a lower death toll from collisions.
The public safety factor has been found to outweigh your freedom of libery (to do whatever the heck you want).
Trust me on this one - I have seen many, many crashes. Probably in the thousands. Wear your seatbelt. Your family will thank you. |

Yes, sorry, there is no excuse for not wearing your seatbelt and a judge is not going to side with "I chose not to wear it". It is the law, and you chose to broke it. I don't think that's going to hold up in court. I guess at this point you should just pay it and be glad you don't have the expense of being in an accident. If you had been in an accident, you probably would be slightly mutilated from going through the windshield, so its best to be thankful for not having done that, too. |

Because it's the LAW and is written in the lawbooks that you must wear a seatbelt! And you were breaking the law so therefore you have to pay the fine- unless you had a medical reason not to. |

You don't.. you either had the seat belt on or you did not. It is illegal because the law says it is. For some reason the State of California wants to save your life if you ever have a wreck.
I never worked a fatality wreck where someone was wearing their seat belt. Just pay the ticket and wear the seat belt. |

You got FAAAAT!!!

I thought it was you Californians who started the seat belt law, and the helmet law and the HOV lanes.... and the V-chip and the MPAA ratings system.... I have no sympathy for youse guys |

its the law. How much is it for? Most likely less than $100.00. Pay the ticket otherwise you'll lose more money from missing work to be at court. |

You can't, these laws were not made for your ignorant butt they were made so that your families don't have to plan your funeral, pay the 20 bucks and get over it. The cop was minding his own business too when you passed by breaking the law he was hired to enforce.... My opinion is let the idiots of the world die, makes my job easier.... |

You can't win, just pay the fine, and cut your losses. |

It's a law because they save lives every single day. There are no logically sound arguments to not wear one. The testimony the officer has to present to the court is pretty easy. However, there are several ways to beat the ticket:
1) Move to Cuba. You'll never be extradited back to the US (only problem, you'll have an outstanding warrant in CA and won't be able to return).
2) Hire a great attorney and hope he/she will get you off (of course, this will cost you much more then just paying the ticket and you may still be found guilty).
3) Get a doctor to lie for you and say you can't wear a seat belt (this is illegal for both you and the doctor and if you're caught, you'll both be in way more trouble then a seatbelt ticket).
4) Continue to drive around without a seatbelt. In the event that you're in an accident, your chances of being severely injured are extremely high. This may get the ticket thrown out if you cannot make it to trial (this of course, would be a terrible outcome and much, much worse then paying the ticket).
If you don't like any of the above choices, your best bet is to:
1) Pay the fine.
2) Wear your seatbelt. |

I beat my ticket in Illinois. Just say that you took off the seat belt while trying to reach in your glove department for your insurance and registration. That the belt was too tight to reach that far. And the cop didn't even realize cause he took a while to walk to your car. And if he said that he seen you with no seat belt say no, my car looks like I don't have it on but i actually do. it hides it. |

hey i just got a ticket for not wearing my seat belt too and i was wearing my seat belt. every one in the car was telling the stupid cop that i was wearing it. he even said i was but the maroon still gave me the damn ticket. so i will be fighting this ticket because the only reason i got the damn thing is because he had to meet his quota. if you want to fight it then fight it. |
