I would think advice from a solicitor would be the first thing....they could tell you what kind of a case you have and help you pursue it....good luck !! |

You need to talk to a professional. A counselor or doctor. The last thing you should be doing is taking advice from illiterate 15 year olds on yahoo answers. Talk to someone who deals with this sort of thing - seriously. |

If they caught the perp, let it go. So you were inconvenienced a little...that is no big deal. Things happen. You can be glad that they were still on the case. In many large cities, people get lost in the system and nothing ever gets done. To many issues and not enough people in the police departments. |

If you are willing to have the memories dragged up time after time, you can report them to CAPO but it will take a very long time and my advice would be to forget it and get on with your life.
How would you feel after many years if they found there was no case or no-one who could be held responsible?
You will have gone through hell for nothing! |

Consult a lawyer.
They will tell you ALL your options. |

You can complain to the Professional Standards Department at your local Police Headquarters or the IPCC, but it's the Police policing themselves. Having been through the complaints process I would strongly advise you to consult a solicitor who specialises in complaints against the Police as the Police will worm their way out of it. Good luck. |

Most people would be pleased the police had not forgotten them and are still pursuing the case in spite of the fact numerous officers are tied up pursuing complaints such as yours.Files get lost in any organisation but at least they are trying to put things right and admitting their mistake. |

Well, if the person is arrested you'll probably end up in court giving evidence anyway, with or without the original statements. So you will still have to re-live it in court anyway!
I really can't see any reason for making a complaint. You said the event happened years ago, but how many years? |

Go to a solicitor, tell them everything you told us, and honestly ask them if you think you have a case. |

You should definitely have some counselling as suing the police will not solve your problems. By all means get advice from a solicitor but you must get counselling |

Get a lawyer. The police destroyed evidence and only a year has gone by? You'll need a lawyer because it sounds like they are mishandling your case.
Edit: I misread your question. Well, depending on how much time has gone by, they may not have actually mishandled it by loosing the evidence. Nevertheless, seeking legal council may be helpful. Also, when you go to the police station, you should have someone with you ( a close friend/advisor) who can help you just have more strength to confront the police, etc. |

Start with a letter to the Area Commander - and send a copy to your solicitor. Then the POlice Complaints Commission. Good luck - this will be a long tough road. |

If it has been years maybe you should be glad that someone in the police cared enough to open a cold case and try to get you justice. What the hell is wrong with you, sue the cops. Guess they would have done better to blow you off. Shame on you. |
