How do I call the State Police on the highway to report a drunk or erratic driver?

call 911, but make sure you try get a plate, color make and model and style (i.e sedan 2 or 4 door, convertable, pickup etc) in addition to the direction they are traveling and what road they are on. Also note what they are doing (i.e. going below the speed limit and weaving in and out of their lane). Keep you safety first and do not get so close you put yourself in danger. Either way call 911, the more information you can provide, the better a chance the PD have of getting the driver.

911. Give car description, License plates, Location and if possible try and tail the car (from a safe distance) to alert the operator of any changes. then when the HWP arrive you just go your way.

911 if you don't know the specific emergency state police number, usually though depending on the state you are in every few miles or so there is a sign with the number to dial. The only issue with 911 on the highway is that cell phones sometimes get whatever station is around, most often not the closest to you, and that means your call may be transefered several times before you actually get ahold of someone who you can give information to.

911 is one way and in some states there is an number for the State highway patrol like in SC its *HP

911 is the safest bet. Some states have *HP or *77 or some such combination or a specific number to call in places that don't have 911 service (1800-709-RCMP in Newfoundland), but there's no universal code.

911.... it gets you to the right person... as the operator is talking to you she is reporting your call to the proper authorities

You need to call 911 and please be as detailed as possible. Give the make and model of the car and the license plate if possible. Make sure you give a detailed description of what the driver was doing and if you get off the highway and they continue on, let the dispatcher know they continued past your exit.

if you call 911, ask for the state police/highway patrol. have a vehicle description/license plate and location of the vehicle for them.

In Okla-coma a few years back I use to see signs saying #55 and no it wasn't the speed limit.

thru 911....let them know the direction of travel of the drunk and they will dispatch Officers to the location. If they leave the highway, the State Police will contact the local authorities.
