How do I get money back from the police?

My sister was arrested Today for driving with a suspended license and speeding, stupid I know, anyways when she was arrested she had like $400 cash on her & when she was release she didn't get anything back, they told her to return on Monday for her money!?!?
Is that normal??
What if we can make it next week, cus' we got vacation plans.
Will they keep the money??

She got her wallet cellphone etc etc back, but NOT the money not even a ticket or check, will phuckin take that short UGLY motherphucker cop to the court.

It could be normal depending on whether or not they suspected drugs might be involved - but with such a small amount that seems doubtful.

It sounds more like they just forgot to give it back. The problem could be that in many departments, evidence gets placed into evidence lockers that individual officers do not have access to - only the 'property officer' can access it in order to ensure the chain of custody. If your sister's money got placed into something like that it might simply be that no one will be there until Monday that can retrieve it, and it's just not enough of a crisis for them to order someone to come in on their time off to get it immediately.

If your sister has any kind of a property receipt showing she had the money, they will not keep it unless you abandon it for a considerable amount of time (far more than just one week). Even if she doesn't (and as long as there really was $400 in the first place) you will eventually get it back - the vast majority of Police Officers want nothing to do with any kind of theft complaint for any amount of money, let alone $400.

It should have been in her property. She should have been given a receipt for the property they were holding. if you don't have a receipt it's going to be a struggle. Go to the county sheriff. if he doesn't do something go to your congressman. You can also tell you lawyer or the public defender. If you have a hearing bring up there.

They are supposed to give you all of your personal belongings back when you are released! That is F'ed up! They are the police and the police are all about taking your money! If they do not give it back take it to a lawyer immediately!

I guess your sister is out of $400 because when you get arrested they will make a list. Your sister should have complaint that very night.
You cannot prove it to the courts because they will not take your words as facts.
Therefore, no money return.
There are many police officers that are not honest and are scamming themselves to make an extra buck. In your sister's case he made a good night out of it.... $ 400...
