I'm assuming your ID is correct and you live in London... Call 0207 230 1212 which is the Met's switchboard number and ask for the control room that covers your area, and explain it to them. They will then be able to give you a "CAD" number which you can use as a reference. I don't know the way their system works, but I'd imagine you could get the same by walking into your local Police Station front office and giving them the same info. This won't stop the Police from attending if someone calls in to report you as being suspcious, but you could then give the Police their CAD reference so they have something to check back on. If they are called out to you, be prepared (whether you have a CAD ref or not), for them to search you, run you through their computer, and check your camera, to make sure you have nothing on you that you shouldn't have. Don't be offended. They're only doing their job. Hope this helps. |

Go and ask them if you are breaking any laws...show your face to them first and tell them what you are doing. Always carry your ID with you. May i ask why it worries you if what you are doing is above board...the world is full of photographers...professional and amateur. |

You need to register with the Surveillence authority and must obtain RIPA authorisation if you are in the UK. Otherwise your pics to help police is useless. Search on google.co.uk for RIPA |

why? is it your hobby or something? as long as there are no kids in the pics i wouldn't be worried about what others think. if you really want to help the police go and speak to them i'm sure they would contact you if they thought you could help. |

if you went to a police station to suggest this they would think you were barking you're not doing anything wrong so forget it |

Well i think if all that your taking pictures of are things in your community, not meaning people or their houses, that shouldnt be a problem. I also dont think it would be an issue if you were doing it during daytime hours. If you do it at night (unless you are obviously taking a pic of something like a landmark or something not so important) someone might mistake you for a stalker, predator, or robber. Stick to it during the day and if the police question you, tell them what you are doing. If you have some type of business card, then show them that. if all else fails and you are hauled into court, bring along your photos as proof to what you take pics of.
DO NOT TAKE PICS OF LADIES OR KIDS without approval of the subject first... that may be suspicious!
good luck! |

I think if you bought a gun and walked into a Bank and said STICK 'em up...that would get their attention. Then just tell them it was a joke cuz you're just trying to get registered with them.
That should do it. |

I once reported myself (for my own good) to social security for working illegally as the ex-copper, wife-beating, drug-dealing scumbag who reported me on a regular basis wasn't party to information I had got hold of on myself.
The following day the local paper carried a story about me working in Hollywood!
They stopped troubling me after that and probably filed me under 'harmless nutter'.
So I would recommend turning yourself in.
For your own good. |

If there's a Neighborhood Watch where you are then join it. Your local law enforcement officer will be making appearances to hear any complaints and receiving information. |

You could be classed as a source of intelligence but be aware that they may need more information on the type of changes you are recording |

Not in the US, there is no registering of photograhing.
And you also need to be sure you are in a public area taking photos, |

You could quite legitimately be sued for invasion of privacy or in the UK under breaking the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. The police can't protect you from that and would indeed be on the prosecution's side. |

Well, then...why don't you just go and ask the desk sergeant or public information officer at your local police station...I'm sure they can help you with that...but they aren't going to be able to protect you from anyone in the neighborhood that you tick off with your nosy, paranoid snooping...so...be careful out there! |
