On the George Washington Bridge Sunday night, there was a MASSIVE traffic jam. Backed up for miles. Suddenly I see this SUV behind me (it wasn't a police car or an ambulance - it was a SUV with commercial plates) and it's flashing its emergency lights trying to get around me. Right away my gut tells me that this guy is fake. So I blocked him from passing me. Eventually he managed to get around some other saps who let him, but I wrote down his plate # and I'm prepared to report this guy so he goes to jail. Who do I contact?
I knew right away he didn't have a genuine emergency, he was just flashing his lights to get around traffic. For those of you who aren't familiar, the George Washington Bridge crosses the Hudson River and straddles the border of New York and New Jersey. So this is the most obvious evidence that this guy was NOT in an actual emergency, because there's no way a police or emergency vehicle would be coming from New Jersey to respond to some type of emergency across the New York state line, which is obviously out of its jurisdiction no matter whether it was a town, city or state law enforcement official.
Common sense people.
I will hound the authorities until this person is tracked down and put behind bars.

The driver is either a police wannabe, which he should be locked up for, or a copper tired of sitting in traffic. Call the cops, if the car is not a police vehicle make sure charges are pressed against the owner/driver, if it was a cop file a beef with internal affairs. |

You should report that to the authorities who have jurisdiction on the side of the bridge where you observed the driving behavior. They may have several other complaints on the same vehicle, which would make it easier for them to take action. |

Shame on you for assuming that it wasn't an emergency. Maybe it actually was some sort of emergency - - - maybe his wife called and she was in labor . . . . . maybe another family member was sent to the emergency room somewhere and he was needed. Maybe he was a doctor. Or maybe he even had an upset stomach and really, really needed a restroom!!!

How are you so sure. In NY there are taxi cabs that are really the police. It's against the law to block a emergency vehicle. That could have been a EMT trying to get somewhere. You should learn to mind your business. I hope it was a real cop and they arrest you for blocking that SUV. |

It's not worth the bother. You don't know that he didn't have the authority to do that, even with commercial plates. Sometimes people do come from other states for emergencies, especially when it's a border place. You think there weren't folks from other states coming to help with 9/11?
For a traffic infraction, the cops usually have to witness it or they can't do anything.
Do you think the cops of NY have time to waste on something like that?
He wouldn't end up behind bars, just be given a fine, but if you harass the cops over this, you might. |
