You can register at TPS ( it works, i get about 1 per month now ) , also get an answer machine and let it pick up.

You can also get junk mail stopped.

When they call, tell them to take you off their call list. If they call again, you can sue for harrassment.

I have caller id - if the number is one I don't recognize or is a blocked or unknown number, I let my voice mail catch it. If it's someone that really wants to talk to me, they'll leave a message so I can call them back.

Telemarketers and surveyors get their information from specific places. Sweepstakes entries are a favorite place to troll for names and addresses. Some intelligent software searches for phone numbers and names together, but the results are not spectacular at the moment. The less you give out your phone number, the less calls you get.

Telemarketers aren't looking just for phone numbers, they're also looking for accurate names to go with them. If they think the name's wrong, they're likely to remove that from the list without you telling them to remove you from the list. Some are more likely to do this than remove you because you asked them to.

Telemarketers often get paid by comission, on the number of sales or surveys they get through in a day, so wasting their time wastes their money. This is another reason to tell them they have the wrong number, because even though they may call again, they'll be wasting company time, and may get fired sooner. Telling them to wait usually also works, sometimes better, because to them, it means that you're onto them. Also, you can spout out some profanities in the background as if you can't find the person you're looking for.

The national do not call list has turned out to not be all it was hoped for. Police, firefighter's organizations, and political campaigners are sometimes allowed to use it as a call list.

Call your service provider they will give you a number to ring and they stop these calls for you. it does take a while for the service to actually start though.

let them carry on telling you all about the double glazing what ever after a while ask if the product is guaranteed and for how long then when they say its guaranteed for say ten years say well I'm 98 and i am not goodbye...or just say you will have to ask the council as your a council house tenant........

when they call you have to make them sorry they ever picked up a phone by being the most anoying you can be. and ask pointed questions they can't answer... like ask then if you can call then back at home. nd if they don't stop calling at least you have fun toying with them

If your with BT, then they can set up a block on such calls. I think you dial 151. I used to get loads of sales calls, but now I get none!

i know you've probally already been asked this but just in case, is your line ex directory that usually puts a pretty good stop to it. anyway gd luck and if it does persist then the only option i see is getting a new number!

if you are with bt, give customer services a call and there is a company/programe that they can put onto your line which will stop these calls.
There is also an address, which if you get another marketing call ask them for, by law they should not refuse it to you, as you have a right not to be on the lists. The majority of the lists are generated from electrol rolls etc.

There is a service called the telephone preference sevice-which should cut out sales and junk calls. Type it and do a search for it on the internet-sorry i cant remember the telephone number for it (you have to register to join it, i think it lasts a year or something like that).It might be an idea to get yourself a unit which you can plug into your BT landline called a caller display unit-it will display certain telephone numbers-i dont answer any that say anonymous. You will get no hassle or upset then - give it a go.

I just received a call from a marketing co conducting a survey for local councils. I got rid of them in 30 seconds by saying 'ah-ha, mmh-hmm, yep and oh-ok' after each statement. Worked a charm, he hung up on me.

With telemarketers you should add you number to the do not call list. But with surveys you should de them, they are very important to the companies i mean it will only take like 5 minutes of your time it will not hurt to help someone out once in a while ;)
