How do law enforcers keep from killing?

When people are arrested for raping, killing, kidnapping, or violations of espically children, how do the police keep control? I still believe those who violate others should be taken and stoned as in the old Testoment. Why should they not suffer in the worst way. How do public service people control their anger?

It's not always easy to keep yourself under control when you're a LEO. Most of us get especially upset when the crime involves offences against children. That could be a criminal offence (rape, incest, assault, etc.) or even traffic related (not having a child in a safety seat and getting into an accident, driving with a child in your lap, etc.), but you have to take that extra effort if you want the as*hole convicted. The closest I ever came to loosing it was taking a cautioned statement from a father who had been treating his 12-yr old daughter as a wife. I was hoping he would try something stupid with me, but he just kept talking himself deeper into a hole. He got 15 years and I always hoped he would get real justice in prison. Another time I was called in on Christmas Eve to do a breathalyzer test on a drunk who had run over an 83 yr old woman who was getting out of a car to attend church. He kept talking about the 'stupid old lady' who walked right out in front of him. He had scraped down the side of the car taking the door off as well, but still blamed her. She died before reaching the hospital. I had to keep my head on straight to make sure he got what he deserved. He didn't get much, but that's the way things go sometimes.

You just have to learn not to get to involved and sort of become "numb" to that sort of stuff. I know from expierence that it's very hard at times but you just have to do your job and hope the legal system works. If we didn't control our emotions, then we lower ourselves to the level of the criminals we are dealing with!

Self-discipline and control. These are trained professionals doing a job, not private individuals on a vendetta. Of course, dealing with the underbelly of society on a daily basis makes it harder to maintain that discipline. All the more need to keep reinforcing the concept that it's a professional job.

And then there are have a few cops that really do feel that they are personal angels of retribution. Unfortunately, they don't get removed until they've caused a major public issue that can no longer be overlooked.

Well, you are as nice as needed until its time to get mean and into control until arrest then its back to nice. Self control is critical and unfortunately the officers who lose self control are the ones you see on TV.

I agree with you but service people also know that two wrongs don't make a right. and they are trained to deal with the scum.

JulyFire
its called...Self control.

Whatcha Gonna Do
discretion! police are trained to not let their emotions get in the way. what if they had the wrong person under arrest and not the real offender? besides police officers don't punish offenders.
also in our day an age, sad to say but it's the truth... there is so many of these horrible crimes taking place that most have become numbed to it. if 30 years ago someone molested a child in some tiny town it would be all over the news in the whole us. now it's like... hey guess what only 4 kids were raped on my block last week!--that is a bit of an exageration, but ya'll get my point.

sorry for kinds gettin off the subject. lol--cowgirl22

Because if we give in to such violent animal temptations, & can't control our ourselves then we are no better the mindless monsters whom comit those crimes. Our restraint & self control set's the rest of us above them.

Sometimes they do lose control a bit... like on that scumbag Rodney King.... But the crappy PC police put them in prison after they had a regular trial and were found innocent... be *very* afraid of your government.

Someone mentioned discretion, it has nothing to do with discretion. That is something else.

Self control and professionalism. If you bust the guys head in, you could lose your career. Then he will be laughing.

you must remember they are innocent until proven guilty. as someone who was charged, arrested and tried for a serious felony crime that I did not commit, I am glad the cops didn't kick my *** or kill me. now as a police officer, I remember that and give them the same respect. so far, none have been innocent, but it only takes one.

That's what makes them better than the scum they arrest.

Our job is to bring people to justice. The court determines guilt and assigns punishment when needed. It is a system of checks and balances that helps prevent innocent people from being punished.

You should go sit in court someday. It's a real eye opener.

?
You really don't believe.....by this action...you aren't the same
Did you really understand Jesus...turning the other cheek...or what he taught
Or is it that simple for you....kill
We are here to help....not condemn (easy way out)
Jesus wasn't for that....you are a hypocrite
