I quite like our repressive lack of bullets in the head too... |

I like them fine.
Remind me, who is it who has the highest violent crime rate in the western world? Which country is it that needs metal detectors to stop kids bringing guns to school? And which country has had several school shootings in the past few years alone? |

Unlike the USA that has over 10,000 gun related deaths a year we are very happy with our gun laws,,personally I think they should be tightened up....
What about the kids at Virginia state |

Agree with Angler, you try talking repressive laws to the uzi-lovers in Moss Side and Longsight. Oh yes, I would love to be out in either place and accidentally get shot by a stray bullet.
People who need guns to defend themselves are weak in mind, body and soul. If you can't stand up for yourself without a piece of metal in your hand, then you might as well turn the barrel inwards, you lily-livered waste of space. |

Absolutely wonderful; at least we TRY to control them! |

Our gun laws are NOT repressive - they are sensible, unlike the pro-gun lobby in the US.
For those who don't know who Winston Smith is - read 1984 by George Orwell although where this idiot manages to find a link to Hyde Park I'm not sure |

It is much safer here because of our anti gun attitude. I am thankful that we do not have the gun problems here that happen in other countries such as the US. |

How do you Yanks like so many High School massacres like Virginia Tech and Columbine? |

I'd rather live in a country where guns are illegal than live in one where almost anyone can get one and therefore have the opportunity to use it as and when they please. |

I'll turn the question around and in the same tone as yours...
How do you yanks like your liberal gun laws? Have you had enough of little kids accidentally killing each other? How do you like teenagers laughing as they murder their classmates or blaming the world for their mental problems? Do you dare upset you local postal delivery worker? How do you like being a member of a nation of potential murderers? |
|

ducky
|
why don't you ask a real question instead of a loaded one ?
such as :
"How do you Brits like your gun laws ?"
see, wasn't that easy ? and I didn't have to put words into peoples mouths ! |
|

What do you think? Our police aren't even armed and our murder rate is still far lower than yours. No idea who Winston Smith is but we don't need your respect if it comes with a gutful of bullets. None of the rest of the world respects America now anyway - you've blown it, brother! |

Rather this than the American shoot first ask questions later way!
How many innocent victims have there been at the hands of trigger happy racist/neanderthals with guns aka american police!! I dread to think! |

My favourite kind of gun laws country is one where you can go for a walk alone at night in a big city without expecting any people you encounter to have any guns or weapons or hostile intentions at all, ever
(but where thieves and crooks are too afraid of the consequenses to strike) |

I personally think guns law in england could be even fierce, We still have street shooting and other gun related violence. However its definately not as bad as it is In the US. Although your gun related non fatal crimes have dropped since 93, It still is a significant figure for death rate by gunrelated crimes.
The recent Virginia Tech for example the reason massacre happening its coz loonies like him who can get hold gun so easily due to lack of gun control.
Around 20- 25% of guns bought by current prison inmates serving prison sentence for gun related crime bought their wepon in flea markets and Pawn shops. Now that is a Problem.
Some Statistics from the USA:
-In 1999, there were 28,874 gun-related deaths in the United States - over 80 deaths every day.
-Between 1993-1999, gun deaths in the United States have declined 27%.
-In 1999, 58% of all gun deaths were suicides, and 38% were homicides.
-Of all suicides, 57% occurred by firearm
-In 2000, 75,685 people (27/100,000) suffered non-fatal firearm gunshot injuries.
Go through the link and u will know why we prefer the laws in England!
PS: Winston Smith is a fictional character created by author George Orwell for his novel 1984. His name has become a metaphor for the man in the street, the unwitting and innocent victim of political machination. |

I think our gun loaw should be even tighter!
I dont like the idea of everyone having guns, there are too many lunatics like you around! LOL |

We like it just fine as it is thanks. Do you think having a gun and going into schools and universities and shooting anyone you see clever? For all your guns and bravardo you are a nation of cowards....you cant even fight your own battles and drag in a Country who in reality had no beef with your enemy. Oh and cant shoot the correct enemy...friendly fire ring a bell? |
|

The laws are just fine. isn´t it better to know that if you get mugged or assaulted that you can fight back or maybe run. if somebody points a gun at you your basically at their mercy. if they dont then you have an option of fighting back or an option to flee. just to let you know there has been a recent upsurge of gun smuggling since the entrance of the eastern european countries but its not easy finding a gun around here. |

If you mean by repressive we can't all have automatic weapons stored around the house then that's fine by me...Not sure what you think our gun laws are...there is no restriction on law abiding people owning some types of guns, shot guns for instance...as long as they are kept in a secure place, the owners do not have criminal convictions,
The thing is, generally speaking the population as a whole has no wish to be armed...as they realise that accidents occur and innocent people are killed. This is something your Country does not realise.
More people are killed by accident in America then are killed or wounded in defence of people or property.
So in answer I am happy that some Police Officers are armed, and some people like to go shotgun shooting, but in general we would rather watch TV |

You ought to go see Hyde Park (Speakers' Corner you mean) - it attracts quite a lot of nutters, you'll feel at home. |

I like the laws we have, and at the end of the day the people who have them now would have them if we either tightened the law or relaxed it and I am talking about criminals, but I cant speak for all but I think our law is just fine as it is |

Gun related homicides in UK 2005 / 06 was 50. Fifty.
Gun related hommicides in USA 2005 was 10,100. Ten thousand one hundred.
USA's population is 6 times that of UK.
USA's gun related homicides are 202 times that of UK.
I like our repressive gun laws.
"There is of course no connection between having a gun and using it to kill someone, and not having a gun and not using it to kill someone; and you'd be a fool and a communist to suggest there was" - Bill Hicks |

It's ignorant dingleberrys like you that will get our laws restricted even further. |

We must a distinction between legally bought and help firearms in the USA and illegal ones used in crimes. In the UK criminals has many automatic and semi automatic weapons. Legal shooters are resticted to Bolt action rifles for anything bigger than a .22 and no hand guns (the criminals have all of them). It is very rae that a legal gun owner will commit a crime simply becuase it takes a mass of research and doctors records to be sifted through before a Fire Arms licence is issued here. If a gun owner commits an offence then he or she can have all there guns taken off them. Take Canada, they have as many guns per head of population as the USA but the firearm crime rate is way lower./ I think it is more the attitude of some sections of US population that use guns to sort out what they want. I also feel thta owning a gun deters many house break ins in teh USA. |
